Maybe not a total recall for 'just in case it fails', but they should extend a warranty service out to 200k miles on the trans just in case there are problems later.

That sure was a fast turnaround by the dealer!

Hey my transmission just went out at 75k and they quoted 11k to fix. Did ford cover part of yours or what ended up happening? ThanksWell a few days ago my transmission experienced total failure. Ill get to specifics in a few but first a back story. This spring I noticed the turbo more at low speeds right before shift points, maybe it was the first time having the windows down in a while or the new intercooler pipes, I ignored it. Last week I noticed a weird prolonged woosh noise at the 3-5 or 3-4 shift. I could replicate it every time. I assumed I was having an issue and ordered new fluid and a ppg pan. My plan was to service the trans today and check everything out. Well that didn't happen.
Last Wednesday I pulled out into traffic and it went from 1-N-10-N-1 in a very fast order. I floored it at one point in that process because I almost got hit by a semi. A 5K neutral drop happened and it defaultwd to 7th. Which so happens to he a failsafe gear, 4th pr 7th. Towed it home and checked the fluid, it was black, completely black zero hint of red. And a piece of friction material was on the stick, off to Ford with a $5800 estimate for full replacement.
Called ford corporate told them my story, emphasis on semi almost killing me. Explained I have owned 6 fords, 3 brand new, 4 were trucks. Logged over 1m miles behind the wheel and only lost 2 transmissions. Both of those were north of 150k and abused. Found out yesterday they told the dealer to treat it as a warranty claim.
Spoke with trans tech who corrected me and stated he was thr transmission guy, got a laugh out of it. I told him it sounds like the CDF drum, he confirmed that same diagnosis the next day. New trans is in, just waiting on big blue to answer on payment. Service writer said I am at minimum not paying for parts, but they probably will cover everything including my rental.
Sucks but the CDF drum was revised for mid 22 and newer 10 speeds. If ford covers it that means something to me. If not, well im selling it and getting something with the 6r80.
I was quoted 7500 for a new trans. Talked them down to 6800 with parts discounts. Called ford corporate and they covered $4600 worth. $2200 out of pocket wasnt bad.Hey my transmission just went out at 75k and they quoted 11k to fix. Did ford cover part of yours or what ended up happening? Thanks
MSRP on the transmission jumped up around $3000 since last yearThat's nuts...I paid less than 6K for a crate trans with brake and coolant flush...
thanks dealer is trying to get goodwill out of ford and they said there is a good chance, fingers crossed something gets worked out because 11k is insane. There wasn’t even any codes/check engine light anything, just weird shifting.I was quoted 7500 for a new trans. Talked them down to 6800 with parts discounts. granted this is my 6th ford truck registered to my name. And my wife has had 4 other fords. So we got the ford family service you could say.
I agree 1/3 the cost of the truck for a transmission is bonkers. Good luck to you.thanks dealer is trying to get goodwill out of ford and they said there is a good chance, fingers crossed something gets worked out because 11k is insane. Explorer is the 10R60. Our ST had a valve body issue at about 45k, hit it to pass someone and it went neutral to donkey kick in a heartbeat. Threw a slew of 4wd codes, we limped to the shoulder, turned it off and on and never did it again. Took it to the dealer the next week and let them check the stored fault codes, they got us a loaner and kept it for 2 weeks until the valve body came in. Over 73k now with now further issues.Everyone saying they should recall is kidding themselves. These are in the F150 (millions sold) the Explorer, the Ranger, the Mustang... you're probably talking 100+ million transmissions you'd have to recall combined.
They're beyond committed at this point. They'll be doing warranty and upgrades till they go under. They'll never do a recall it'll be their end. They can't sell enough F150s to make up for that many new tranny's
That's besides the point, what are they going to put in their place? You don't just drop something else in, you'd need something else ready to go and programming logic to go with it.
It would cost them less to fix it at this point and I think that's what we're seeing. First with the CDF drum and now the upgraded housings. Don't be surprised to see a revised valve body in the future.
Unfortunately, there's is no such "department of goodwill" at any business company...even Goodwill is a for profit business lol...thanks dealer is trying to get goodwill out of ford and they said there is a good chance, fingers crossed something gets worked out because 11k is insane. This is true, I called the Ford "Goodwill" like the dealer said and I got told to not call back... ok.Unfortunately, there's is no such "department of goodwill" at any business company...even Goodwill is a for profit business lol...
