$460-600+. Make sure it's a drop and fill with filter change. Some only do fluid exchange only.
Pretty sure mine price was fluid only. And only what was in the pan.

Wow, that's bad but I guess pretty good if they're gonna cover it. Good luck.

Also, what in the world was that 5k neutral drop even like? I can't even imagine that.

Everyone who's had transmission problems that lead to a safety issue, like the originator of this thread, should be reporting their experience to NHTSA... Unless we report it, Ford's just going to keep going with the TSB and never be forced to do a recall:

I don't know how Ford can ignore the 10R80 out waiting to prematurely fail.
I do. Service After The Sale seems to be a rusty sign on American Pickers. I've been hearing the usual litany of excuses as to why things can't be fixed (backorder, shortages, warranty claim delays etc.) and I don't believe any of it. Funny how after you plunk down a year's salary for a vehicle they try to upsell you after the fact and send you offers to buy another vehicle but when it's time for them to give something back the excuse flip chart comes out.

Like getting rear ended by a small car. Less exciting than launching a manual in a similar manner.

They shouldn't have to be forced.
I agree, but it's been several years now, they are fully aware of the problem and it's safety impact, and they haven't yet.

We need to do our part and report the safety issue to the government so that it can be dealt with properly.

I've seen enough videos put out by transmission shops saying the failure is inevitable in the first gen 10R80 transmission. They might be biased the reports piling up on our little forum are consistent. You would think our paltry little 270 hp motors wouldn't have the same problems as the bigger output engines so for anyone looking to buy or keep the pre 2023 Ranger needs to plan/budget appropriately.

They have all but admitted the CDF drum is the issue. The valve body is of poor design as well. But that is an easier fix of its caught in time. The 90s trucks sure look better now. Just enough electronics to make everyone happy but simple enough anyone could fix them. Might need to find a good solid 4.9 with a 5 speed now. This was my first and last new truck purchase.

Well a few days ago my transmission experienced total failure. Ill get to specifics in a few but first a back story. This spring I noticed the turbo more at low speeds right before shift points, maybe it was the first time having the windows down in a while or the new intercooler pipes, I ignored it. Last week I noticed a weird prolonged woosh noise at the 3-5 or 3-4 shift. I could replicate it every time. I assumed I was having an issue and ordered new fluid and a ppg pan. My plan was to service the trans today and check everything out. Well that didn't happen.

Last Wednesday I pulled out into traffic and it went from 1-N-10-N-1 in a very fast order. I floored it at one point in that process because I almost got hit by a semi. A 5K neutral drop happened and it defaultwd to 7th. Which so happens to he a failsafe gear, 4th pr 7th. Towed it home and checked the fluid, it was black, completely black zero hint of red. And a piece of friction material was on the stick, off to Ford with a $5800 estimate for full replacement.

Called ford corporate told them my story, emphasis on semi almost killing me. Explained I have owned 6 fords, 3 brand new, 4 were trucks. Logged over 1m miles behind the wheel and only lost 2 transmissions. Both of those were north of 150k and abused. Found out yesterday they told the dealer to treat it as a warranty claim.

Spoke with trans tech who corrected me and stated he was thr transmission guy, got a laugh out of it. I told him it sounds like the CDF drum, he confirmed that same diagnosis the next day. New trans is in, just waiting on big blue to answer on payment. Service writer said I am at minimum not paying for parts, but they probably will cover everything including my rental.

Sucks but the CDF drum was revised for mid 22 and newer 10 speeds. If ford covers it that means something to me. If not, well im selling it and getting something with the 6r80.
I'm in the middle of this now! Full rebuild 9 days ago and paperwork said to give a week or so for computer to learn the new tranny. Still bucking and clunking second to Third 1500 RPM to 30 mph. Hate to have to go back in but they have to make it right! So far Fairfield Ford is excellent about it.

Have you had the DPFE EGR sensor replaced? It is known to cause bucking at light throttle low speed conditions if bad. See this thread:
