Just thank your stars you don't have the v6 the early Edges have. Failed water pump dumps water into the oil pan. My mom's had 76000 miles and required a new engine to repair it. Thanks Ford for the $7700 bill for that.

It’s not surprising that the NHTSA is getting involved, especially since engine issues can affect safety in so many ways. Ford’s had some recalls before, so I wouldn’t be shocked if this gets escalated. I had a similar experience with the Hyundai Tucson engine, and while it wasn't exactly the same problem, it was frustrating dealing with the lack of communication from the manufacturer. Hopefully, Ford owners can get some clear answers soon and avoid any major complications. Have any of you dealt with similar issues in other models?

lol my wife and i traded our ford edge for my ranger! it had about 118k miles. man that ford edge was comfy as hell to drive, but the transmission was lazy/slow. ultimately, not a bad vehicle! glad we dodged the water pump issue.

Year old thread, but there is a new recall for the same issue.
This is from Sept '24
Ford Recalls 90K 2.7L & 3.0L EcoBoost Powered Models Over Potential Engine Failures - Ford-Trucks.com

"This new recall pertains to 90,736 different 2021-2022 Bronco, F-150, Edge, Explorer, Lincoln Nautilus, and Aviator vehicles equipped with either the 2.7-liter or 3.0-liter Ford EcoBoost Nano engines, which – in this case – were equipped with engine intake valves that may break while driving, which can result in engine failure and a loss of drive power. Vehicles equipped with these faulty valves were produced on the following dates:

  • Bronco and F-150: May 1, 2021 through October 30, 2021
  • Edge and Nautilus: May 10, 2021 through October 29, 2021
  • Explorer and Aviator: June 7, 2021 through October 31, 2021"

I guess I'm glad my wife's Edge ST is a 2020

Gonna have to check the build date on my wife's Edge. But I think it's an SEL ST-line, so might have the 4 cylinder. I'd better check.

Best we all trade in our rangers for a Ram or a Dodge. Or a Hyundai/Kia.

I always thought it was buy new and sell when the warranty ran out.
Or buy used cheap so you could pay for repairs instead of making payments.
50+ years of doing it wrong.
