Never ends with these trucks. Pretty sure this transmission is more than I put into my last truck over 270k miles. Im disappointed honestly. Willing to drive an appliance at this point like a civic. Truly jaded by Ford now.

Your last statement rings true for many. If I occur any major problems with my RR and I won't be in a blue oval again. Loved my Gen5 and was going to own it until the wheels fall off but the transmission was about to go just about your milage.

After I got the quote I actually wish it hit me, like gently as to not cause bodily harm but to total out the truck.

Hopefully Ford really comes through. I always hear those stories never thought I would be on the receiving end. The dealership and tech both said 30k drain and fill intervals are required for these. Fluid breaks down otherwise. I think ill start that for cheap insurance. They said this after I said I would do it myself. So I dont believe they wrte trying to sell me anything.
Sorry to hear this. I have almost 19k on my 2020 XLT Scab FX2. I do have a 10yr/75000 Ford Protect ESP. It's a bit temperamental at the 1 to 3 at times even though it's been flashed. I plan to have the trans fluid drained and replaced at 30K. That semi issue is scary. I drive easy and stay in the right most lanes so I can pull into the emergency lane quick should something go south. Unfortunately, that's where the semis roll. Good luck with the replacement. It sounds like you have a good dealer. Mine is 1 exit away but I've had issues. Mostly with the service advisor not keeping me updated and making sure all work is documented properly.

Love driving around a time bomb. I think once that bushing starts to slide in the CDF drum it will start to show symptoms as you had. Once it has moved to the point of blocking the fluid passages it is a total failure. Mine is at 30K now and I plan on keeping it as long as I've had my 97 F-350 7.3, so I hope it gets me to at least 100k. Just changed the fluid at 30K this weekend and there was almost nothing on either magnet. That doesn't mean anything with this bushing though.

I have a BTS built E40D in my F-350 and love driving it. I may go that way with the 10R80 with a Suncoast or one of the other builders here on the west coast that can also do the programming. I hope I never go down that way because I love how it shifts right now.

Wish you all the luck with you Ranger or whatever you get into.

I had 2 7.3s in the past. My last one had a 4R100 that Brian blessed with a lifetime warranty. Sent it back once when the TC went out. Other than being a PIA because it is gigantic it was a good experience. Wonder if he builds these too?

This is very interesting to me to continue reading about this transmission.
If the CDF Drum is the problem then shouldn't you just go ahead and replace it.
Yes Ford should cover it but a new Lariat Ranger is like 40k-50K at least.

Maybe a few thousand is worth it.......
I don't know but this whole thing is very concerning.

I have 35,900 on my truck and it is still running smoothly.
I have no intention of giving up my 2021 Ranger and maybe should start looking into the replacement of that drum???

Trans tech said the labor is a lot higher. I might save $1000 over all but rest of trans is old. So its silly. Plus mine was trashed so it was a no brainer for me.

the new tsb says to replace it.

I'm reading all these posts about transmission failures.... my 2021 has 52k on it and I also use it for towing a travel trailer. I'm not surprised about all this... when I bought mine....as soon as I heard the words " 10 speed automatic transmission".. I immediately signed up for Ford ESP. I think it will probably come in handy !!!

no; you're assuming that taking apart a working (and really complicated) transmission and putting it back together is going to result in a more reliable item, and I don't think that's a good assumption. there's been a good bit of talk that people servicing these transmissions have caused as many issues as anything else (e.g., overfilling) but people generally discount that sort of thing vs being sure that there's some simple fix that ford just refuses to do for no good reason. maybe ford's assembly line has issues, maybe it doesn't, but for me it strains credulity that every single transmission guy in every single ford dealership in the US is going to put a transmission together as well as the factory. if you get a guy who's not great or is having a bad day or whatever, you've just spent a ton of money to make things worse.

in general, humans aren't great at internalizing statistics. even if there is an elevated failure rate on these transmissions, there's no particular reason to believe that they will *all* have issues. there's what, 12k+ people on this site, and there have been how many reports of transmission failures? even if the failure rate gets as high as 1%, it makes no sense at all to spend thousands of dollars to try to prevent something that unlikely--especially since there's no evidence that it would help, and especially since that's money down the toilet if the truck is disposed for some other reason (accident, etc). part of the problem, of course, is that nobody on this site has any idea what the real failure rates are, but that doesn't stop the speculation.

Or less. Not all of us broke the 90k mark like you did. I put on miles with the best of them. Clearly not at your level. But under 150k is honestly unacceptable. I dont drive like a moron either. Little spirited at times but fairly normal. 72 mph cruise all day.
