2019 Lariat with factory keypad. The fob can be left in the vehicle and doors locked by pressing the 7/8 and 9/0 numbers simultaneously once the doors are closed. The Ranger can be unlocked by inputting the factory assigned code or your alternate code (if you programmed one).

I'm not sure if this setup would have helped the OP given the suspected cold temp affecting the battery operation.
Are you saying that vehicles with push button start, you can safely lock the fob inside by pressing 7/8 and 9/0? I ask because my wife's Edge has PBS and she always is worried about having her fob with her.

The battery in the key pad is not replaceable AFIK. I had one go bad in my 2014 Focus and they replaced the whole keypad under warranty. New key pads need to be encoded by the dealer only
The keypad on my '12 Focus lasted about 8 years. I used it quite often. On the Ranger, I try to limit the keypad use so maybe it will last longer. Easy to do by using the app more.

I have two suggestions based on using it for the last 4 years:
  1. Put it back in and lock it as SOON as you pull the key out. It is easy to leave it on the bumper and drive away.
  1. Somewhere on this forum there is a link to hitch locks and bike cable locks etc. That you use your ignition key in it one time and it is forever keyed to the ignition key.

I know it works for the 2019 Ranger. Only way to confirm is to try it out on her Edge.

A bit of searching produced these two threads on this board. Apparently the battery in the keypad is replaceable. I'll find out for sure if/when my keypad fails to work.

FYI, the battery in the Lariat fob is a CR2450, not a CR2032.

My bad. The owner's manual just says it's a 3V battery and I assumed 2032 without actually opening mine up. 2450 is also 3V but a slightly larger size and higher capacity.

I wouldn't have known except I just changed mine.

Just to follow up on this - if anyone is interested. I bought a new battery for my fob (CR2450), installed it, and I was out hiking today. Upon returning to the truck, the fob worked fine - it was about as cold as it had been the last two times, so I'm almost positive the issue was a weak battery.

Glad the new battery took care of it Rob.

Received this message today time to change battery. Might as well change original H7 also.
