After putting on 5,169 miles on MP2 (almost a years worth of driving) on our trip last month I got the oil changed with a full synthetic. I also had the tires rotated and alignment done after hitting a few potholes along the way. So now I should be good for a year. Lol

Not yet. I'm trying to decide on which one but leaning towards the Viofo A139 Pro 2 channel. Besides it's way to hot here to even think about installing it now. ?

Did you get yours yet?

? I figured you could save some money and just strap a GoPro around Cheech's collar and have him stick his head out the window.??

LOL, that would be the vomit-cam on him and covered in slobber, he's little but slobbers like the best of them!

So, if I understand right, does a capacitor-based dash cam handle heat better than a battery one?

I was surprised at how sensitive they all are to heat with top operating temps that really aren't that high for inside a car. Let alone you and your home state of Easy-Bake Oven!

When I do get one (and it'll be a pair, one for Kate too). I'm really leaning toward the Nextbase 622GW with rear cam and doing a hardwire kit. If I ever feel the need for parking monitoring, I'd probably get a battery pack - too nervous about the horror stories of Ranger batteries going dead.

I understand the setup and like the rear screen on Nextbase. BUT ... there are so many good ones out there that even something at half that price would work great.

I have watched most BlackboxMyCar YouTube videos and gone to their site many times with some other brands being real contenders for me (like BlackVue).

Too many choices, too little cash! =D

I really don't think any of them will last long out here. Taking it off every night would be a pain too so that's why I've been holding off for now. The A139 has a max heat rating of 149* (higher than the Thinkware's 140*) which is really not high enough if your vehicle is out in the sun. Even with the new sunshield I doubt that'll help much here

Solutions!

That's what makes 5G owners so awesome and this is exactly what you need!

Get 4 and they even match MP2's color.

You're welcome! =p

In case you were wondering, you can fit a @Nopalito under your truck when you install the OME 2.2 leaves and remove the spare.

Installed my Snorkel Upgrade filter today. Took about 8 minutes. Super quick and easy. Should keep the air going in a lot cleaner. Stoked to get it on the road for a drive when I get my drive shaft. Hopefully Friday.

Had a rough go with the Lux rock lights. Only lasted 18 months. All 8 had their magnets corrode out. Three of them shorted out internally. Cut all of them out and filled out the warranty claim form.

For what they cost they should last a lot longer than that. I thought those were supposed to be really good too. They were next on my list to buy when this heat finally breaks and I can instal them. I know I wouldn't have to worry about the corrosion part but having 3 short out is troublesome to hear.

They lasted through 2 winters?

Has anyone used a different magnet light product that's lasted longer underneath the vehicle?

Wow Dan, those sure didn’t stand up to your nasty winters - are they using any salt or brine on the roads there now? It sure looks like they might be.

When I lived in Calgary, they only used sand and pea gravel. What a shame.

Oh yeah…….Go team yellow!

Quick update:
I was surprised to check my email and already two emails from the team at Lux. They are moving quickly to get these replaced. I believe they have updated their design since these were purchased and the magnets are now encapsulated in the resin. They are also going to include a tube of thermally conductive silicone.

The Edmonton area does use a combination of salt/sand in the winter.
Between the fragile nature of the magnets and the water or heat that lead to the short, I will have to make sure these are sealed well and take more time on the install.

I do hope the replacements last longer. Even with warranty, it’s not convenient to troubleshoot and re/re them.

And yes, go yellow!

Can confirm, City of Calgary uses salt/“pea gravel“ mix on major roads and residential main streets. Same as the province. Windshield repair companies love it! Corrosion starts showing up quick on exposed metal. ?
