Just ordered one for my inevitable replacement. The 20% off was a nice incentive.

Interesting the shifter boot hasn't had the issue?

Shifter boot is much thinner and more flexible.

Still have my original parking brake boot 50k in though.

I wonder though once you take it off you will find a small tear starting. On my first Ford replacement I saw a small one develop - thus my purchase of the redline boot. When I took it off there was another spot you can tell was starting to crack - but I would never have seen it if I didn’t take off the boot.

But it’s mute since you are going to replace it - so you never have to worry about the ford one cracking. And it looks so much better!

I think that the shifter boot is real leather from the factory.
I completely mis read what John wrote! Doh!
Sorry John.

I think somewhere on this thread it was discussed the shifter boot was just more pliable pleather. But no consensus if it was real leather or not. But Ford didn’t seem to care about the e brake boot. Probably cause the warranty replacements coat way less than what it would have cost to make something better. I never noticed it till it was brought up on this forum!

I finally got around to replacing the parking brake boot with the Redline boot. Very nice quality, and much higher quality than the stock Ford part. It is interesting that Ford did not cut corners with the transmission shift boot, which has the same feel as the Redline leather parking brake boot.

The Redline replacement was a perfect replacement, fit and finish is excellent. Count me a happy customer.

Ford cuts corners in the most curious places. I wonder how and who makes such incredibly stupid (or simply greedy) decisions. There is no engineering reason or CAFE standard to blame this decision on... this is purely a cost cutting measure. And it reeks of substandard quality.

This is one of the reasons I could not purchase a Maverick. The interior is "toyish" at best with what looks to be Melamine plastic dash and door panels with bright orange accents in one model.
Childish best describes it to me.

It reminds me of the AMC Pacer interiors... as AMC was going broke. Big molded hard plastic door panels that were rattle traps. Perhaps Ford is facing similar financial challenges.

Put mine on this weekend as well. The Ford console matches real leather better than the cheap ass boot from the factory ??

This is a small issue but at just over 7K and live mid east coast USA....I shouldn't have brake handle boot cracking and looking rough.

The brake boot subject seems to have come up again recently, so dropping in here to say that after almost 2 years my Redline boot still looks brand new.

In the previous 2 years I went through 3 factory boots (2 cracked and the 3rd replacement was the same material as the 2nd one that cracked. So I ordered the Redline before the 3rd one had a chance to crack).

Pretty simple to replace?

Noticing mine has cracked/torn in a few places at 3 years in. About 1/2" spots. Just through the outer "pleather" coating not through the backing material yet though.

Mine's got a hole you could almost adjust the parking brake through.
