Sad to see Ford taking that stance on this issue as if the TSB doesn’t even exist. That’s a tough break, for sure. Sorry this happened to you and I hope you enjoy your new truck.

Just remember what you’re driving when some hoonigan Ranger owner starts egging you on at the light.

Spark plugs seize all the time but they really shouldn't be on a 2019 model of anything. I bought a 2019 a year ago, and one of the first things I did was take them out and visually inspect them and put a smear of anti-seize on the threads. (That was busy week of preventative maintenance for me lol).
A wise old mechanic friend of mine told me years ago to loosen and retighten spark plugs once a year to prevent seizing.....and that it'll happen on brand new vehicles just as easily as 15 year old used ones.

I don’t have an engine cover and after washing and heavy rains my engine is bone dry.

unless one has the engine cover, water runs down into the spark plug area, with the hood closed, normal rain etc. thread around here some place about it.

I literally just had the same thing happen.

I got out for $780 but Ford tried hard to pin it on me. Blamed me for driving through high water, said it was because I was off road (in an off road vehicle?). Whole bunch of hooey.

Now the wife is upset and doesn't trust the truck to go out camping. It's pretty much limited to runs to the grocery store (1 mile away) only when she's at home to come get me because she's afraid I'm going to get stranded.

I'm getting offers for between $31k and $38k for the truck. Means I can buy a new truck and lower my monthly payment. So I'm shopping and I have to say, I like the Toyota. With the Next Gen hitting the floor soon, they are motivated to clear the lots. I'm thinking my days in this Ranger are numbered. This weekend, I'm pulling out the Ham Radio and CERT Gear and getting her down to bare bones.

Wonder if Ford is going to update the TSB to include the 23's?

Really sucks for the OP. I'd be ape shit angry at Ford too.

Troubling to hear of this issue and Ford not standing behind the TSB and their product. Understandable for you guys making different choices. You have to do what's best for yourselves. Good luck on your decisions. Guess I am lucky I don't have spark plugs and do have a engine cover.

It wasn't long ago when everyone was raving about their Ranger.
Now the grumblings are starting to get louder.

Funny thing is, none of this is unique to Ford. Can happen with any other vehicle.

My understanding is that the 23's get a revised engine. I would hope they revised this out of the design. The interesting thing is that we have the same block as the Focus and it has a history of the same issue - TSB as well for that one. I'm thinking that this engine has a design flaw somewhere in it. I think Ford KNOWS IT TOO and that's why they try to shift the blame to the owner.

Mustang (different 2.3L block) seems to have this issue much less.

Water from cowl leaks on engine in a bad spot , engine cover ( Ford's fix)deflects water to a less bad spot , hopefully, ...seal cowl and stop water BEFORE it gets to engine , that would be the proper fix , that's what I did as soon as I saw the water pouring in...

Yeah the offroad stuff is funny, had a dealer try to pull that when i had a front axle leak, but i was still under the 3-36 and its a damn raptor, offroad is where it belongs.

Long story short got it fixed under warranty, but just annoying getting anything done under warranty these days.

New ZR2 looks pretty cool and has tons of power, if that had been released sooner i may have switched sides. FWIW i got offers of like 33k on my xlt tremor and i got 39k out of it at the dealer, but this was 2022 so things may have cooled down since then.

you’re right it can happen to any other vehicle but it usually doesn’t in my experience. Every Toyota I’ve owned lasted at least 300k without a single failure other than things I caused. Have a Tahoe with 581,000 miles that’s never had a failure. Have a 97 z71with 312,000 that’s never had a failure other than an alternator. But my wife’s 2019 f150 needed a transmission at 100k. Now my ranger has a list a mile long with problems.

hopefully it’s a coincidence but I’m starting to have my doubts.
