They always blame it on the techs so just another day of the blame game!
But they aren't all like that. I've had good experiences and bad experiences with dealership service departments. I have a 3 strike rule. After that third strike, they're out! Only one dealership has had three strikes, and that was in a space of two weeks. The incompetence was mind-numbing. I will never do business again with Rowe Auburn. My wife questioned why i drove 45 miles to Yankee ford for an oil change and then she scheduled a service appointment with Rowe for her Hyundai. After one visit she said "I see why you drive 45 miles for an oil change". After working with Bill Dodge in Saco and Brunswick, Rowe was a major disappointment. Yankee Ford was the exact opposite of Rowe.

Living on the road now, I keep a mental tally of Ford Dealerships that I would and would not hesitate to use again. Jones Ford in Buckeye: Good. Jones Ford in Casa Grande, not so good. Strike one. Don't make stuff up because you won't think I'll know any better and then lie to me while mis-identifying suspension components. Mainer Ford in Bristow OK, good. Vision Ford in Alamagordo: good. That Ford Dealership in Moses Lake WA. Not bad, not great because I went in for an oil change and transmission service and they couldn't do the transmission service because it was their first one and didn't know how to do it. In their defense, they did research first and realized they didn't have the parts to do it correctly so did nothing to damage it. Something to do with drive shaft and one-time use bolts.

So yeah, Now I'm down near Yuma going to another dealership for an oil change and rear brakes, but it has almost 60K miles, so I get it.

No reason to rip someone off.
Not excusing the lack of integrity of some folks but when employers tie compensation to commissions derived from selling services - this can be the result.

A prime example was the Wells Fargo some yrs back where management pressured/demanded employees to covertly enroll customers for chargeable services - many employees were terminated (5K) when these illicit practices were uncovered and Wells Fargo CEO - from whence the directive emanated - was booted with a paltry $129 M serverance package. So did that balance out the scales of justice ? I refuse to bank with Wells Fargo and in fact when I switched my investment portfolio from a firm that used Wells Fargo this facilitated the decision.

Our HR girl used to work for Wells Fargo. She left because of those types of practices, she hated it.

could be the driveshaft bearing - there are common issues with that part. mine started squealing at ~5k and i had issues with the dealer diagnosing it because it was intermittent

Interesting. Mine does not sound anything like that, at least not yet. They only mentioned the driveshaft and weren't specifc about bearings but I'll ask when I pick it up tonight. How long did it take for them to fix yours?

less than a day for the actual work, but finding the part was an issue. The dealer just ended up ordering a new driveshaft assembly because the bearing by itself was on backorder

FYI - I have a grinding noise similar to what you describe, and it has been diagnosed as the d/s center bearing. I'm waiting on parts.

How long have you been waiting? Are they replacing the entire drive shaft or just the bearing?

As others stated it is way too early for brake failure. I never had the issue with mine and I had around 54K. Most brakes(as long as not dragging) can last up to or past in some cases 100K
Pretty sure I'll be over 100K before I need pads.....still have about 1/4" of pad left at 96K.

OP, it will be cool if the driveshaft repair solves the problem!

My truck ended up needing a new driver, rear rotor roughly 18,000 miles in. Something happened and I got a grinding feeling very suddenly. After 1 week I finally got around to pulling the brakes to find out that on that particular wheel, I had no brake pad left and the rotor was SHOT! I was lucky to source a new rotor for it!!!!!!

I have 36K miles on my 2019 FX4. I heard the rear brakes grinding as I backed into the garage a few weeks ago and bought replacement ceramic pads from Advance Auto Parts (I could see the fronts still had good pad on them). I was somewhat surprised when I pulled off the wheel and there was plenty of pad left on the originals. As I had it apart, I decided to go ahead and change them. Only nuisance was the tool needed to screw the caliper piston back in was difficult to use and bordered on being useless. Otherwise the pad replacement was among the easiest I have done. And the grinding noise is gone.

The brake pads only retract a few thousands of an inch from the rotors in normal operation. If they are worn to the wear indicator, they will make a scraping noise as indication to replace them.

The noise intensity could point to other issues at play, but we are at a disadvantage by not being able to see/hear it in person. If, for example, the inner pads are worn heavily and the outer pads are closer to new, it would indicate that your rear caliper(s) have an underlying issue where they are dragging constantly and wearing out the inner pads.

If you were able to remove a wheel and get us pictures of the pads/rotors up close, we could provide better feedback.
Jason Tremor is correct on everything he said!

So who's driving it now?
