Why did you pick the Ranger over the Tacoma?

To start Toyota was never an option for me. Just to start they were the company that said "not our problem" when people were speeding out of control in Toyota vehicles and getting injured, if not killed....... Also if you try to change the fuel filter on an old one...... Good luck......

For me I had a 2016 Frontier Desert Runner. It was 2wd and then I moved to Colorado. Boss said i need to get a 4wd(and he did not specify new). Got a 1992 Pathfinder. Got it fixed october 2019. Hit a deer woth the Frontier a few nights later. It was in the body shop for 2 months. End of october i got into a rollover with the Pathfinder. That same day I was offered a nice deal for trading the Frontier to get the Ranger.

February of 2022 I lost said ranger due to Ground Beef...... Yep it is a thing...... For what its worth I dont have a vehicle payment and i can get my other debt paid off.

Toyota has lost so much trust/faith customer relationships it now has to adhere to the call the customer every 3 years and ask if they want to trade in. When you refuse to admit that there will be mistakes, etc... Eventually word does travel near and far. Even better when Corporate comes to their precious Kentucky assembly plant and says, we can move production back to Japan, not only will quality be higher, but to assemble and ship to the US will be more cost effective to the bottom line. That tells you everything you need to know.

Pretty sure I’ve told this before but, once I had decided on going with a midsize pickup Tacoma was the one to get. I researched the market segment and the previous model Frontier and Ridgeline were quick eliminations. I was looking for pickup that could off-road and still be functional. ZR2, Tremor, TRD Pro, and Gladiator were off the list for price. So I was comparing Z71, FX4, TRD Off-road. The Z71 couldn’t keep up with other 2. So we looked for a Ranger and Tacoma to test drive. The Ranger had plenty of room for 2 car seats with a 6’3” driver, the ride was nice, and get up and go was impressive. Next we drove the Tacoma. My sons knees were in his chest behind me, it shuddered at stop lights, and couldn’t get out of it’s own way.

Made the decision really easy and not the one I thought we’d buy when starting out.

In case you are wondering the Frontier can go OffRoad and be functional. Why you think it wont is beond me. Had a 2016 2wd. I wish it was a 4wd as it would of made things a little easier for myself. Good truck for what it is and I feel it is way better than the Tacoma.

That model was very long in the tooth and it’s not an attractive truck. I think it was listed as having the smallest or 2nd smallest leg room measurement for the rear seat.

My daughter has a deep Cranberry Red Taco w/ premium wheels and interior. It looks good for a Taco, if you're into that sort of thing? I believe its their "upper" model, as it also has the hood scoop too. She let me drive it on a few occasions and I frig'n hated it with the hood scoop. It may look more sporty, but its a real nuisance and hindrance to look over, particularly when trying to judge your front bumper distance when parking. Another oddity is how high the floor is in the cab. Unlike your typical American Made Truck, and cars, when the floor drops down an inch or so, the Taco's floor is level out to the rocker, so you feel as if your knee's are up higher. I just couldn't get used to that seating position. Maybe the shorter stature of the Asian market find that appealing, but I felt it completely sucked..

At the time, I had eyes for the GMC Canyon Denali Edish. I wanted a mid-sized truck and even tho I really don't care for Chevy or GMC, I wasn't sure about a 4 cyl turbo in a truck and wasn't nuts about the door wedge lower front end look of the Ranger. After going to a local garage to test drive a GMC, they had one Ranger with a leveler kit on it and some eye catching aftermarket tid-bits. I thought I'd at least take it for a spin.. I mean, what could it hurt other than waste a little bit of my time?.. Once I got out on the open road, I was shocked to feel the pull of the engine when I jumped into it. Literally no turbo lag and it just felt right. At that point I was sold and genuinely love to drive it every day back and forth to work. I've also gotten several nice compliments on my Lariat. - At the end of the day, it's not just another Tacoma with an american flag on the door.... Whatever the crap that's even supposed to mean?

Maybe for the extended cab. I'm 5 ft 11 in and had no problems in the back of the crew cab. As for how long the D40 was out, yeah it was for a while. Started in 2005 model year, and if not mistaken 2021 was the last year. Body wise I like it better than the new one. And as long as you preformed the regular maintenance(wich no one does) the thing was a reliable machine!! The only two things I did not like with the 2016 i had was the turning radius(made the joke constantly about a tractor trailer dojng better) and the MPG a little. Mind you this was taken care of when I got into the Ranger. That said it was an easy truck to work on.

The tacoma with an American flag is someone trying to claim being a patriot. No mater what its still a Japanese truck. Same thing with my 2016 Frontier I had. He'll my 1993 Pathfinder is also Japanese. Many seem to think that Toyota is American but are clearly confused.

I'd never own a boring vehicle, the tacoma is the very definition of boring with it's underpowered high revving noisy v6 + 6 speed automatic transmission.

Ranger is fun to drive!

I take it that what you call "dual-cabs" are what we in N.Am. call a "crew cab" (i.e. four-doors & adequate seating for 5)?

I actually thought your crew cabs were like our extra cab with a space behind the front seats but only 2 door. I now realise they are the same as what we call a dual cab.

I had a 2018 TRD off road 4runner before the ranger. I wanted to upgrade into something that had a small bed, could tow better... I didn't want the truck version of my 4runner. The v6 really isn't that bad, what hurts is the gearing- It's always too high or too low.

I LOVE MY RANGER, THE ONLY GOOD THING ONE CAN SAY ABOUT THE TACO IS, THE V6 SHOULD LAST LONGER BECAUSE IT'S AN UNDERSTRESSED ENGINE, NO TURBO
