Sure, that's how it worked last update. This time I clicked and began downloading the payload file, then the webpage changed and the license file link was gone... and there was no email this time.
I got an email and was able to use the link in the email to download the map file a second time. First time the download was interrupted.

Use Diskpart

Windows 10
Open a command prompt as administrator

Windows 11
Open Terminal (Admin)

Type diskpart

In diskpart.... rescan

in diskpart... list disk

You should see a list of disks and drives on your PC. The USB stick is usually the smallest in size.

in diskpart... select disk and the number of the usb drive in the list. It could be 3 {select disk 3} Again look for the small size in the list. Don't confuse it with your recovery portion

In diskpart.... list partition

here you should see the partitions on that USB stick. If there's more than 1, then you have to delete it one by one. Let's say you have just one.

in diskpart.... select partition 1

in diskpart.... delete partition override.

Do that to each partition. You must select the partition 1st, then delete.

Finally
in diskpart..... create partition primary

USB should work in windows after that. Format it to your liking.
Damn.
I'm doomed if I have to begin to think like this to do things for my truck.

You might try contacting ALOM directly and see if they can figure out why your VIN isn’t working. I have have good luck by emailing them at [email protected].

Include the ESN along with your VIN. Be sure to give them the Sync ESN and not the Sirius ESN.
ALOM?

ALOM is the company that Ford uses to distribute the map updates and I believe they also run the nav update web site. When there were issues with getting incorrect files in the downloads they were very responsive and got the issues resolved.

Download to my computer took FOREVER but was able to load it up on a USB and installed in my 19' Lariat. No issues besides taking a long time to load on my truck. About an hour...maybe a bit longer.

Qualified as ET2/SS (Radio) on the Kentucky 737(B) Nov 5, 2005. Left the Navy as CTN1/SS in 2012. The decals are on the outside, I got them both on Amazon, but it looks like the deterrent decal is out of stock :(

Cool. With my cap on the truck, they wouldn't be visible though. Might have to put them on the side windows.

Got this in the mail yesterday...For my situation (I don't drive thru the woods or to remote places without cell service) carplay from my iPhone to the sync3 display with Apple Maps or google maps or Waze works fine for me. I can't see paying all that money for for all the grief I've read about going through the updating process just to get an updated GPS system that already free and updated through my iPhone.

I wish that the Andriod Auto didnt have to be plugged in to use Waze or Google Maps. I prefer to wirelessly charge and navigate through the screen.

There are wireless AA adapters available so you don't have to plug in your phone to use AA. My wife's new Jeep didn't come with factory Nav so she has to use Carplay. I bought her a Carlin Carplay wireless adapter and it works just fine.

Install Note:

If you download it and transfer to USB for install:

The Instructions state that it must be USB 3.0, I did not have any extra around the house -so a trip to Wal-Mart had to be made. I have a bunch of 2.0's around but only (1) 3.0 and it's not available for use

Did my Map Update today, Download and Transfer to USB - No Issues.
Went to Install - Got Error Code: LST_ERR05.

Read directions again: Noted that I copied the License Folder to the USB Itself.
It must be inside the SyncMyRide folder, moved it to correct location and tried install again: Installed in about 1 hr. (Let Truck Running for the Process) - No Issues

RETIRED!
Apparanty you can do these updates using your home WIFI with the vehicle sitting in the driveway? I hit the "check for updates" button today and the the little circles on the screen started spinning. I left the ignition on for an hour or so. I checked several times during that hour, and the circles were still spinning.

A bit later the screen was back to normal. I checked for updates again and not it says everything is current. However the SYNC software version still shows 3.4.21194. So I assume it did not update. Correct assumption?

I downloaded everything from the Ford website and tried updating it that way. the light on USB blinked a few times and said the update would be completed the next time the vehicle was started. I unplugged it as instructed and checked the version....still 3.4.21194. Started the vehicle and still no change. I went through the process with the USB again, this time I got the LST_ERR05 code.

Am I missing something? Or does it take a long time for the version # to change? Fords web site still shows that I have updates available.

Open to suggestions.
