I traded a 2019 frontier for my 2020ranger, there is no comparison the ranger is a whole different class of truck, better steering, better mpg, more comfortable seats, and a lot better looking
2022's look like a different beast though, and the first year I would consider.

I can't imagine that i would get this many comments on what was admittedly a petty gripe, on a great Truck. but to me, the difficulty of tying a Tarp over the load for a dump run the 3rd time just began pizz me off. As i said, i sold the Ranger for financial reasons, not because of this, and i thoroughly enjoyed driving it. I only mentioned my recent purchase in interest of full disclosure, though it does compare well in the bed access dept. Enjoy your Rangers, they are great trucks. this was just a thought that occurred to me, and was wondering were people came down on it. I vote Design defect. Cheers!

Admittedly, this is why your post generated so much noise. You finding your truck too tall, is not a defect. And lack of options to change what you don't like, is also not a defect.

We seem to be going through a phase where individuals want to choose what a word means to them, and most people reject that.

You say "defect", where there is none. I hear "I bought a truck, didn't like a built in feature, and function, so it's a defect", as a way to absolve yourself from not having done your due diligence before purchase. This truck didn't raise it's rear end several inches higher after you picked it up, or gradually over the course of some time. It was like that when you got it; as designed and as intended.

I read your post where you received your truck. And the meme below sums it up.

Saying you're an engineer grabbed my attention.
Next thing I did was start looking at your post for spelling and grammar mistakes.
You passed.
Now, if you wood have said you are to smarter then everyone, your post wood have lost my interest.
That's why come.

I have been an engineer for 46 years and my biggest failings are spelling and grammer. Over the years this failing has been a pretty common trait with my engineer co-workers. ?

Many of us don't need the ground clearance "as built". It would be very nice if there was a manufacturer option to buy it lowered like yours. Looks very nice. I would assume the gas mileage is improved also
Mpg went up just a tad. I'm 5'7", I don't offroad, so lowering it was an all around win for me. Easier to get in/out, load/unload the bed. I put some helper bags on the rear for towing and what not. A lowered "street trim" option would be nice.

<snip> I've come to suspect that the high rear ride height was a design flaw caught too late to correct. <snip>

What to you think, agree or disagree and why?
Design flaw? No.
Design flaw would be if the bed wrinkled when loaded, tailgate won't stay shut, etc. Functional problems, not STYLE problems.

Is the Ranger bed high? Compared to what? 3G Ranger? Yes. 2005 F-150? Yes. Other contemporary trucks. Yes and No. It depends.

Is bed height a result of chassis design choices? Yes. It's definitely possible to modify any truck feature, to any degree of customization. The only question is at what cost in terms of time, effort, materials, and planning. If you found the Ranger's bed height a deal-breaker, you made the right choice to sell it and get a truck that is more to your liking.

But don't try to pretend that the truck is defective, and Ford could not fix the defect. That's just moron level stupid ... well ... I'll be nice and say it's uninformed. Things like Bed Height are defined VERY early in the design cycle, and if unsatisfactory, are quite easy to change, before metal is cut, bent or welded, and would be fixed at the prototype stage at the latest. Nobody overlooked this. There is (always) a trade-off involved and it was decided that the benefit of "some other characteristic" was worth the minor inconvenience of having a bed at this height.

To be fair, I'm not trying to bust on the Ranger, it's a great truck, but, I don't buy a truck to play with like a little kid, I use a Truck to haul stuff, Appliances, dump runs, furniture, etc. The bed is the reason i buy a Truck. Wtf were they thinking? For Me, at the end of the day, the weird super high azz end was too much. I can't see Ford doing this intentionally. I say- unintentional flaw. would of corrected it, but caught too late. Sad.
Umm... You bought it like that, bro. Seems like the one who "caught" it too late was you...

Just sayin'...

One thing you seem to forget with the Ranger vs the Frontier is the bed height. The walls are higher on the Ranger compared to the Frontier. Depending on the year of your Tacoma you may of had the shorted bed height as well.

With all that said is it really a design flaw? No its just a person complaining because I never had a real issue with it.
the tacoma bed sides are not off by much the 2nd gen is a tad lower but not by much tbh
OK I'm in!

now that is hot!
Notice that the picture of the Ranger is 'Photoshopped' lowered in the rear, by FORD! it's actually faked. The pics on the build it site are all doctored to make it look equal ride height. And it's not correctable. It can't be fixed while preserving functionality. Had to be a flaw. It's a great truck, except for the rear air azz problem. lol.
man what kind of coolaid are you drinking??? ive driven all midsize trucks before i got my ranger and yes the bed is higher but thats because its bed walls are literally taller.... but i have no complaints i came from a tacoma that was modified so it was rather tall and even i didnt complain about accessing the bed and im only like 5'8"

As mentioned it depends on the year. To my understanding the change for Toyota was 2016

I'm only 5'5" and have no issue with the Ranger's rake. I defer to Ford on their design and their engineering expertise.

I haul often and trailer at times and it works fantastically. I can't imagine not having a rake and wanting to use its payload to the max.

Being able to reach in is secondary to my use of the Ranger as a truck. This is a bizarre argument like complaining that a tank's armor is too heavy.
THIS! ^^^^^
I feel like everyone arguing about the rake of the Ranger is forgetting that they bought a truck designed to ride level with payload! To sell a truck with no rake means the instant you put any weight in the back you are doing the rear lean.

I could see someone picking the ranger despite the seemingly high bed, the seemingly less than ideal ride quality, the seemingly whatever. I shop and buy the closest to my liking. I may even buy the lesser than the preferred just because of something I deem more important for that particular purchase.
I will have some positive things to say, and I'll have some negative things to say about my Ranger.
