Need an oil change before taking a trip this week (archery antelope). Too much on my plate to do myself. Quick Lane at the dealer is closed on Sundays...So I was the second car at Jiffy Lube this morning.

Waited 20 minutes for them to wheel my truck inside, only to be told they didn't have the ability to access the vehicle's oil filter. I told them where it was and how to do it, no dice. Yeesh.

Anyone else experienced this? Can they also not do oil changes on Ford Explorers and other vehicles with this motor?

Hope Quick Lane will fit my truck in tomorrow if I drop it off at 8am.

Nope because I stopped going there back in the 80's lol No offense Wes but JL would be the last place I'd ever go for an oil change. Heck I'd drive it 20K if I had to before letting them touch my truck. They messed up and didn't tighten my filter on one of my brand new cars way back in the early 80's and I haven't been back since. Hopefully you can get it changed out tomorrow morning.

There is an Iffy Lube across the street from my office. I stopped in when we first opened just to introduce myself and saw their price for a synthetic oil change was $99. Yeah, no thanks.

And I wouldn't want them to change your oil either. Any non-dealer quick lube place - generally run by idiots and scam artists.

Your oil filter nut will be either overtorqued or undertorqued enough that you should worry about it falling off, your nut is probably going to be rounded over, lowest grade filter possible used, and prepare yourself for high pressure sales push for windshield washer blades you don't need, and an air fliter that actually had dirt loosely installed on it by them right before they showed it to you and said "oh this looks dirty, you should get a new one."

Edit: geez I'm too slow in this thread, hahah

Jiffy lube messed up one of my company cars years ago. They wanted to replace factory oil pan nut with one of their vacuum tube adapters at no charge to allow fast changes. Would have been good if they picked the right thread size. About 15 miles down the road new fitting fell off. Dropped a nice stripe down the street. Damage was done. They’re insurance paid the claim. What a PIA!!! Never again, I do my own as long as I can still spin a wrench. And when I can’t I’ll get my son to do it! ?

They’ve been in business for a long time. I bet nation wide, tens of thousands of successful oil changes each day. High-pressure for sure. A little shady - it feels like it, depends where you go. Employing people at the bare-minimum = yup. But… lots of successful oil changes each day.
Now, any place I have to teach how to do a job I am about to pay them to do is a hard NO.

i know its not the easiest to get at but would not have expected them to turn you away. i bet they had an issue with breaking the plastic clips holding the fender liner thing in place and decided they didnt want liability for them again.

ive heard the worst oil change is wal mart. after a situation with a battery swap out i would not go to a wal mart for any auto work more than a battery. and be wary of the battery install lol.

My experiences with similar 'quick service' shops have been poor at best to disconcerting/scary at worst.

Negative encounter with 3 such 'employees' in 1993, ran into the same 3 guys 5 years later in another state 400 miles away, working together at a business in a completely unrelated field. The 'leader' of the three stalked me at a local assisted living facility on a number of occasions after our second encounter. Still spooked nearly 25 years later.

I stay completely away from every 'quick service' business, whether its tune ups, oil changes, brake jobs, you name it. Kinda think these places employ people who would be unemployable in normal fields otherwise.

Oil change is possibly the most important maintenance to DIY.
I see it as an essential opportunity to inspect the vehicle for wear items or for damage...
I then have another 5000 miles with peace of mind with the hood closed.

WOW, I got my first oil change with them, their problem is accessing the oil filter through wheel well, they did a spot on job for me with exception of slopping oil here and there, minimal but still got me peeved!! 75 bucks vs fords 120 bucks and faster. In the end I got it done again at 10k with FordPass rewards.

I just got my oil changed at the dealership. Did take 3 hours because of other cars but they charged $75. They did the 20k mile inspection too. I also double checked to make sure they did not overfill, it was right in the middle
