Ford EcoBoost Carbon Buildup Issue Solved Via Walnut Blasting

Here's a good video showing how dirty the valves in the Ecoboost get after just 44,000 miles. This is the same 2.3 we have in our Rangers. This is a reasonably priced ($500) DIY system for those who want to attempt this but also a good reminder that this should be done by a pro at some point.

Wonder how much that has to do with the grade of fuel ? That adds quite a bit of cash to the 50 Thousand mile service , I would imagine a shop would charge around $ 500 to do that?

Something to check for sure. He makes it look pretty easy just wondering about the cost at a shop.

Fuel type and grade is irrelevant to a DI engine carbon buildup. Highest quality and frequent oil changes can help to only stretch out the walnut blast interval somewhat. This is just the reality to owning this type of engine.

You could take it to a VW shop too.

Yeah super common place regardless of fuel uses. Audi likes to way overcharge on these repairs. $250 for a BMW is actually a really decent value.

Regular oil changes with good oil and the good ol Italian tune-up regularly help stave off this issue for a while. I never had a problem with it and never once blasted my valves on my 175k mile MZR. YMMV.

Don't those motors have injectors to wash the backsides of the valves though?

Are you saying higher RPM's is my friend ? We are already pretty close so I may not have an issue ...

While an "Italian Tune Up" might help a little (probably not but it'll be fun anyways ) it's not going to prevent carbon build up on the valves with a DI motor. You need Port Injection to wash the back side off which we don't have.
