You’ve obviously never had a damper on a tailgate. You don’t jerk your hand away after opening the latch. You just open the latch and let go. Since it opens slowly there’s no reason to jerk your head away. My 2017 Tacoma had one and it was handy to have. Found myself letting my Ranger tailgate slam open out of force of habit of letting it go after opening the latch!
the point is.....

if you dont have a damper - in order for the tailgate to slam...you have to jerk your hand away in an unnatural way in order for that to happen.

Normal, natural motion is to open the latch and lower the tailgate. Hence no damper is required.

I already stated I never had a truck with a tailgate damper. It is a solution looking for a problem.

The POINT is, it's NOT a Problem. It's a convenience. Solution, DON'T buy one. I will. Great thing about living in the Free World! :>)

Next thing will be a auto lower and raiser with a push button in the cab. Now that would be a nice thing to have. Whenidiots are following to close, drop tailgate and let a (use your imagination} slide out. :sunglasses:

I've always thought about installing a paintball gun on the front, but one in the bed would be great as well!

Sounds like a good way to start a road-rage paintball war. At least no bullets unless the other guy isn't playing fair.

Think Range would have something to do with it but since it's only a thought there's not any real paint to deal with!

I had one on order through CarID since early March, and was told in April that it would ship by 30 May, I asked them last week for an updated status and they came back and told me the item had been Cancelled by the Manufacturer!

They offered me a Refund which I of course accepted. I assume they got tired of waiting for DeeZee to get these made and delivered.

Is Panda Motorworks version also a Dee Zee product? Any idea if and when they will ship?
I just called CarID cause mine stills says July 15 and he said order still active.

So I am going to continue to wait, hell been on order since Feb 3 and can't find any others out there available.

Hopefully it will come July 15, but wouldn't be surprised it's pushed back again

I ordered back in December and mine says it will ship June 14th. I've been meaning to call to get a more current status, but haven't yet. Since there don't appear to be any options, and since I've already paid for it, I am inclined to just let it ride.

That's what I did until the May 30th Ship Date passed and then I sent them a follow up. They first asked for 24 hours to get in touch with the Maunfacturer and get a Status update. The next day they said it was cancelled by the Manufaturere. So I asked for and promptly receive a Refund.

I wish @PandaMotorworks would provide an update on their unit. I've seen multiple requests for a status update, but unless I've missed it, I haven't seen anything. Is it still being developed? Or is it cancelled? Is it going to be available soon? There is a TON of interest in it - seems like an easy moneymaker....

Well, the Car ID unit is no longer an option for me - got another call today - new estimated date is January 15, 2020!!!! That is over a YEAR from when I ordered it!

And still no update from Panda - very discouraging..... Hoping my homemade attempt will bear fruit....

I for one don't want a damper, I want to swing my foot under the truck and have it open automatically. you approach your truck with an armload of stuff from Rural King and have to put some stuff down to open the tailgate. Yes, I am lazy and earned it.

Toilet is a bad comparison.

Wake up your wife once at 2 am. With an accidental slam of the toilet seat, then try to explain why it is not needed.

I have never slammed my tailgate and never had a damper. It is an unnatural motion to open the tailgate latch, then jerk your hand away to let it fall. Natural motion is to keep hand on latch and lower the tailgate.

The toilet set has no natural motion to keep it from waking the wife.
Think about people like me. I have a 12 year old son who I tell to go out and put something in or take something out of the bed of my truck.

How natural is the motion for a 12 year old that's 4'11" tall or how natural is that for my 5'2" wife? And besides, my child doesn't listen, he's going to let it fall, my wife doesn't listen nor care either lol.

Just because you don't want or need it doesn't mean other people don't want or need it. And it's also not necessarily a "need" thing. I know some people have a hard time justifying buying things just because they want it and not because they need it, but I have worked hard to get to the point in my life where I can buy things because I want them and not have it hurt my pocket book.
