Klaus Schwab at the 2016 World Economic Forum, almost prescient.Perfect storm on the horizon.
As dealerships and even small-medium size dealership groups are being bought up, coupled with the complexity of coming AI vehicles (Level 5 Autonomous tech could add ~$12,000 to an average midsize), private vehicle ownership will be overtaken by vehicle subscriptions.
Much like cable or streaming, you would set up an account with a dealer/agency for one of several account types and upcharges. Need a ride to work? Configure your FordPass app to have a robo-van pick you and a few others up. Little weekend getaway with the spouse? Upgrade to a self-driving two seater for a couple days. The same for a pickup, van etc. You don't own anything, and select vehicles based on your daily needs. Vehicles will be standardized based on type and size, much like rental fleets are now.
Private ownership, even in rural areas will be as rare as aircraft ownership is now, and could follow a similar timeshare model. KOA, lodges, etc will have fleets of AI boats, RVs SXSs etc which are billed to your site or cabin.
Then mobile transportation itself becomes obsolete.
That space for a 2-3 car garage or underground condo parking area today will be converted into a 3D printer network space. You subscribe to an Amazon-type network for your all of your daily needs. Need a new sofa? "Alexa, show me sofas." You pick one out from your hologram wall and then say, "I want this one.' The printer then selects the appropriate raw materials slurried in via pipeline, and builds the sofa. Candlelight dinner for two? Out comes the roast quail, china, sliver service and linens. The Holowalls are programmed to create an ambiance of your choice; Ski lodge, opulent antebellum plantation house, Mediterranean terrace, you name it.
No need to actually go anywhere; too dangerous, with the heat and flooding.
We are not human. We are (cy)'Borg.
Looks like solar would have worked , lots of sky there...Found these recent photos of some electric vehicles that "didn't make it".....ran out of juice and no charging stations around !

Haven't you heard? a 13 Richter scale earthquake will occur along the San Andreas fault. Everything east of there will fall into the Atlantic Ocean. And the oceans will still rise and flood the left coast.
Nah, I saw that in a movie once and Superman picked up California and set it back in place.Haven't you heard? a 13 Richter scale earthquake will occur along the San Andreas fault. Everything east of there will fall into the Atlantic Ocean.
Cost cutting is nothing new. Makers have been doing it since the first vehicle rolled off the line. And when they start cost cutting on an EV, expect cheaper batteries with lower range and lifetimes.Actually all of the cost cutting we’ve seen on the Ranger is just a preview of what’s to come for the ICE “Ford Blue” vehicles going forward. Ford’s plan is to maximize and squeeze every cent of profit out of the remaining conventional ICE vehicles to fund BEV development, production and marketing. At a certain point if you want the nice features you will have to go BEV because the remaining ICE vehicles will be a shell of their former self.
You'll be able to buy that $30K Tesla Musky promised before you could buy a hybrid Ranger for under $40K.Would gladly hold out for hybrid Ranger if base model could be had for under $40k. If not then it's a no go for me anyway
Sounds horrible.
Yes it does.Sounds horrible.
Damn Superman why? If only he had the power of super-foresight.Nah, I saw that in a movie once and Superman picked up California and set it back in place.
Just start buying property along the Nevada and Oregon state lines cause it will become beach front property. Only problem for the other 49 states is we'll be stuck bailing out and rebuilding the island of California.Damn Superman why? If only he had the power of super-foresight.
Nah wall it off. They can secede.Just start buying property along the Nevada and Oregon state lines cause it will become beach front property. Only problem for the other 49 states is we'll be stuck bailing out and rebuilding the island of California.
Given that the price difference between a base F150 and an F150 lighting is about $10K, I would assume it will be similar in every other line as well.Cost cutting is nothing new. But for me, it's always a no on EV for trucks. A passenger car maybe, if they ever become affordable.
Problem with that is then they will become a Third World Countey, and we will start sending $$$ to them for palaces for their leaders, fancy uniforms for their leaders private protection, and military equipment for their make believe security forces.Nah wall it off. They can secede.
Reservations for the all-electric pickup truck suggest Ford's bet on an electric version of the F-150 — an investment that has exceeded $1 billion — will pan out. The automaker said it has 200,000 reservations for the F-150, which has prompted the company to double its planned annual production to 150,000 vehicles in 2023.
Ford CEO Jim Farley called the Ford F-150 Lightning a "Model T" moment, a nod to a disruptive and pivotal moment that revolutionized mass production, giving Americans unprecedented access to vehicles and even changed the physical landscape of the United States.
"The Model T changed the world not because it was beautiful or slick, but because it was ingenious. Our customers found ways of using the Model T for all sorts of things that no one predicted at the time like school buses and ambulances. Some enterprising folks took off the back to make the world’s first pickup trucks," Farley wrote in a LinkedIn post Monday. "With the F-150 Lightning, I believe Ford is tapping into the same spirit of innovation that fueled the early models my grandfather worked on."
His point is that like the Model T, the Lightning isn't a niche novelty vehicle. Instead it will be accessible and useable just like the gas-powered versions it sells today.
