Actually all of the cost cutting we’ve seen on the Ranger is just a preview of what’s to come for the ICE “Ford Blue” vehicles going forward. Ford’s plan is to maximize and squeeze every cent of profit out of the remaining conventional ICE vehicles to fund BEV development, production and marketing.

At a certain point if you want the nice features you will have to go BEV because the remaining ICE vehicles will be a shell of their former self.
There's a lot of truth in that but I still think you'll get those feature from an ICE vehicle. You'll now have to pay through the nose for them and step up to the top of the line model like a King Ranch for $90K+.

There's still going to be a high demand for ICE vehicles but I think many (myself included) are excited and skeptical to see what's coming down the road. Like anything changing over there will be many bumps in the road and more so now with all the crazy stuff going on in the world today. Some will be early adapters and some will hold out as long as possible. I can see going hybrid and taking baby steps until things are perfected, our grid system being one of the most important.

Looks like there's another Ford electric truck in the works. Would be nice to see an EV Ranger but I'm guessing a full EV Maverick with a Hybrid Ranger.

Hey, Dave, thanks for posting this one. I am not interested in a hybrid Ranger, but I would be all over an electric one! Unfortunately, I think that you are probably right about the Mav getting the fully electric powerplant and the Ranger the hybridized one. But maybe Farley is playing with our heads by saying that it would be "a truck": the Bronco is a "truck-based SUV" already, and it may get a truck-bed option at some point anyway. And, yeah, I would be all over an electric Bronco, truck-version or not!

I find the EV technology interesting but the lack of range and infrastructure plus the charging time is a no go for me. I would be more interested in a hybrid Ranger. Maybe some day the technology will give enough mileage but for now it’s a no.

You people dont realize that the elc wave is going to change your lifestyle. For instance no more campers. You will have to drive your little fart car to the campground rent a camper and sit by a little elc fire. If you can get a reservation. You will live in a high rise connected to your job. No need for a car. Most people will go on vacation in a surround tv. Want to ride a horse or drive a car, sign up for the simulator.

My garage is the only infrastructure I need really, work and back , errands here and there, almost never more than 100 miles in a day , wifeys car for back up, I ain't scared , jumping right in , I would have went all in on a Rivien but for those headlights and front end ...nope...
E Ranger won't be a separate forum will it ?

I think the real tease Big Jimbo let out was that the BEV truck won't be made out of steel or aluminum, but Tennessee mud:

“I wish we could bring you down there, but we’re already pushing dirt down in Blue Oval City for another electric pickup truck that’s different than this one,” Farley said.

I. CAN'T. WAIT! I've made a commitment to myself that my next vehicle will be a plug-in or all-electirc...preferrably a truck. Since I LOVE my 2020 Ranger, and the next generation will be related to the Bronco chassis, I'll be one of the first to put a deposit down.

While I love the idea of the F-150 Lightning, it's just big of a vehicle for my taste or driving style.

Same here. A BEV Transit Connect-type van is on the radar for eventually replacing our '09 Mariner. We aren't putting more than 8,000 miles/yr on it and rarely drive it more than 150-200 miles at a time, now both retired, The Ranger is the distance, all weather runner; If there are snowy roads, Mrs Motorpsychology won't drive any more that the ~mile to the grocery store or our kids'. FWD is all that vehicle would need. Plug it in to 120v AC and it would be good to go, only being driven 5-20 miles at a time a couple three times a week.

One big issue that will affect dealers is that EVs don't require much service.

The service department is a huge profit center for dealers and they'll be scrambling to find something in the EV to fill that gap (virgin olive oil based Nitrogen? Essential Oil infused cabin filters? Psychic energy pyramids to hang over your head while driving?)

I think the "Big Dealer" will go away once the EV infrastructure is built, and more manufacturers will go to the Tesla model with online build/ordering and service coming to you if there's a big issue.

There are a few dealers that I can think of right now that I won't be sad to see go away.

Yup...they can get rid of all their mechanics, who will be replaced by the "Bunny".
And, overhead will be low concerning salary... they can be paid in carrots and lettuce !!!
Customer complaints will go way up because of all the little "jelly beans" the bunnies will leave behind.

Perfect storm on the horizon.
As dealerships and even small-medium size dealership groups are being bought up, coupled with the complexity of coming AI vehicles (Level 5 Autonomous tech could add ~$12,000 to an average midsize), private vehicle ownership will be overtaken by vehicle subscriptions.
Much like cable or streaming, you would set up an account with a dealer/agency for one of several account types and upcharges. Need a ride to work? Configure your FordPass app to have a robo-van pick you and a few others up. Little weekend getaway with the spouse? Upgrade to a self-driving two seater for a couple days. The same for a pickup, van etc. You don't own anything, and select vehicles based on your day-to-day needs. Vehicles will be standardized based on type and size, much like rental fleets are now.
Private ownership, even in rural areas will be as rare as aircraft ownership is now, and could follow a similar timeshare model. KOA, lodges, etc will have fleets of AI boats, RVs SXSs etc which are billed to your site or cabin.

Then mobile transportation itself becomes obsolete.

That space for a 2-3 car garage or underground condo parking area today will be converted into a 3D printer network space. You subscribe to an Amazon-type network for your all of your daily needs. Need a new sofa? "Alexa, show me sofas." You pick one out from your hologram wall and then say, "I want this one.' The printer then selects the appropriate raw materials slurried in via pipeline, and builds the sofa. Candlelight dinner for two? Out comes the roast quail, china, sliver service and linens. The Holowalls are programmed to create an ambiance of your choice; Ski lodge, opulent antebellum plantation house, Mediterranean terrace, you name it.
No need to actually go anywhere; too dangerous, with the heat and flooding.

We are not human. We are (cy)'Borg.
