With all that extra weight tell me how you're going to air down to 18psi, or lower for serious rock crawling? I guess they'd be fine for some trail riding but I just can't see doing anything more than and easy trail with one. There's no way I would want to haul around full gas jug(s) with a generator while off roading either. Doesn't this kind of defeat the whole purpose of getting an EV and "going green"?

Now I really don't have a problem with EVs and I think they fit for bill for "some" people but will never take the place for everyone's needs. Heck 80% of our driving now is short trips with the longest being about 40-45miles round trip and an EV would probably suit us better but it doesn't mean I want one. I think the only thing that will get me out of my Ranger will be a hybrid. Even then I'm not sure It'd be worth it because we don't put a lot of miles on now and the added expense just wouldn't make sense. It's good to have options just don't force it down everyones throat. If they're so great (time will tell) then let people make up their own mind.?
Has your position changed regarding EV's, @AzScorpion ? You basically started this exact topic in 2022 (see below). I've merely started a new one in 2024 based on Farley's recent bombastic commentary.

Very interesting conversations regarding EV's today. Me personally I would prefer a hybrid SCAB Ranger if they came over here. I did have a hybrid 2013 Ford Fusion which I wish I had kept but traded it for the Ranger. I love my Ranger but with gas prices being over $4+ a gallon it really adds up and makes me thing twice sometimes. How does Farley register his Chinese EV? He must drive illegally?? Hypocrite! I don't blame the UAW for giving him a bunch of crap.
I believe there's more to him driving a Chinese EV than most realize.

I've said this before, but I'm not ready to buy an EV in the rural area where we are retiring. I'm all in for a PHEV midsize truck.

This was before all the "unknowns" came out. Like range and how they react in cold & hot climates. See anyone can make anything look/sound good until they hit the streets and we see real word testing. They do it with everything it's a marketing ploy. All I'm saying is that EV's, especially in a truck, are way to heavy and have very limited benefits right now and most likely will for a long time. Maybe something small like a Prius or a Tesla would be a better vehicle but most use their trucks to do truck stuff. EV's are so far off from accomplishing this and even Farley found this out when he took a Lightning on his trip last year.

Just like Elon's Cyber Truck which he thought (IIRC) he'd sell several hundred thousand. Last I saw it was only around 12,000. Unless somethings changed I remember Lightning sales are way down too. The price, distance and overall cost of ownership is way to high for the average person. And if anyone thinks they're doing their part buying these because they are "green" I have some nice waterfront property to sell in AZ.

Things change fast in the EV world. A lot of the concerns about charging stations highlighted in this 2023 article have been addressed or soon to be. The market is slowly becoming more accepting of EV's now.....and this trend will continue, but it's not an either/or scenario. We'll all have options for some time, but there's a shift occurring, clearly.

"But our dealers are also becoming a competitive advantage for mainstream customers. Take, for example, Tim Hovik and his team at San Tan Ford in Arizona. In the quarter, one of the months, they sold 137 electric vehicles. And Arizona is not a ZEV state. These were incremental sales with solid gross profits for the dealers. And we are building on that know-how for the last couple of years in scaling and being #2 across our whole US dealer network.

And we continue to break down the friction or barriers to adoption for mainstream ICE customers. We are the first to join Tesla's Supercharger network, and we'll be shipping about 100,000 adapters by the end of this year. We are the first to offer complimentary home charging and installation. We call it the Ford Power Promise, and we've seen a huge uptick in interest on our website from the Power Promise.

All of our 3,000 dealers are primed to sell EVs now. We have 7,000 trained EV specialists, and 14,000 dealership hours have been spent on EVs now. Our dealer network has already installed 800 fast chargers across the US and Canada, and many more are on the way. Next year, we expect to improve the trajectory of Model e's business through cost, scaling, and we're not trading wooden nickels inside the company for emissions credits. That won't change the economics of our EV vehicles and the company as a whole."

I agree. He said this on an investor call. The CEO of the company saying he specially imported this vehicle to drive personally, and after 6 months "he refuses to let go of it."

I'm bracing myself for a partnership announcement. "If you can't beat them, join them."

But I'd love love love to be wrong on this one.

I'm sure he and Ford investors would like nothing more sell more vehicles in China, but I think Farley learned a lot about EV develop and plans to use this knowledge. No better way to evaluate a vehicle and the platform other than driving it.

I'm eager to see this California Ranger design he's been talking about.

Then you won't be in Ford long. Farely is doubling down on EV's and hybrid. You may not like it, but it's where they are putting placing their bets.
Same with Toyota

Heaven forbid that he has to drive some of the sh#t made by the company he runs. dude loves the publicity he gets by driving a Chinese made EV and he may be well trying to grease the skids for his next job should the Ford family have enough of his dime store antics.

EVs are good for daily drives which I use for mine but for off roading the Ranger for me is my best bet. There are no chargers in the desert here in SoCal, the chargers are quite far from the trails. We just came back from Page AZ and drove thru sands in the Navajo Reservations for hours and didn't see a charger anywhere or anybody for hours.

It's actually around 27-28 thousand sold.

More than all the Rivian, Lightning, and Silverado EV sales combined.

I would guess that's primarily due to the Supercharger network availability, so sales of the others may pick up when they can access the network too.

The area where I live is an EV charger desert. No Tesla chargers nearby and the very few third party chargers in the area appear to be frequently Out of Service.

There are a few locals with Teslas but not many at all.

And I very rarely see an EV from a different manufacturer.

All that said, a PHEV would suit us well with all our short trips and the occasional long drive.

That right there should tell you something, nobody wants this stuff. 30k in auto sales is NOTHING. Drop in the ocean and that's all the leaders got to show and it's more than everyone else combined.

Enough already.
