Too bad this died, my main pain with this truck is the smaller fuel tank. Although it seems to plague the rest of the midsize trucks, kinda wonder why we get 3 less gallons than most.

The ranger is just as long and wide as my lightning, and that has a 26 gallon tank.

I did see another aussie sight with a 36 gallons tank, which besides being overkill, has no baffles, which (brace yourself for this one) baffles me. Also prob wont fit, but still, only thing i can find out there sadly.

Fuel range hasn't bothered me yet with the Ranger. Between my old, very efficient bladder, the Princess, or one of the dogs...someone needs to go for a walk every couple of hours! Plus, the MPG gain over my old Frontier gives this truck more range. That being said, I never leave the pavement without a full tank and a jerry can in the back.

Russian take on long range fuel tank development (let's keep the politics out and concentrate on how great idea this is for extended range Ranger)
  • Take a gas drum
  • Fix it to vehicle with ratchet straps
  • Attach hand pump
  • When fuel tank is empty, stop and go pump some extra fuel!
This allows quick refill of original fuel tank and easy 200l or 400l litre range extension adjustments on the Rangers bed. 3 to 6 refills between the gas stations.

Example installation:

There is a company that makes a tank that bolts to the bed with the same idea. I'm trying to keep the bed open though. Good idea, but not for my application.

Is it permanent installation or can you swap it out in case full bed is needed?

Might be good to post a link here for others.

Alright folks. I spoke to Transfer Flow and they may be willing to build us a tank if we can show enough interest. They are currently working on a tank for the Superduty trucks with the 7.3 gasser after that forum was able to put together a petition with 2-300 requests. We’re going to need to do the same to get them interested in building a tank for us.

Anyone adept at setting up a survey / poll/ petition that we could use to gather and track interest?

How? Unless it's a Diesel it's illegal to mess with gas tanks like this... Epa law

Pretty sure most States allow an approved auxiliary tank up to a certain amount. Anything larger requires a permit and an DOT approved tank. Most construction guys I know have a good sized removable tank. Some come with HP fuel pumps for transfer and others are hand pump types.

Replacing factory tank is another big can of worms. Liability’s with these and getting them to play nice with trucks systems is a big job.

You can buy large capacity replacement fuel tanks for most full size pickups. These replace the stock tank and fit in the same location. You can also buy auxillary tanks that fit under the bed where the spare would normally sit. Quite sure there are requirements for how these tanks are constructed but can't see how the EPA would have any say about installing them.

Here is a 40 gallon one for the F150.

Incorrect sir. When I meet with the guys at LRA in Idaho I was able to to learn a replacement tank is legal as long as it meets dot standards. A second tank/Auxiliary tank is a little tough for EPA reasons. Not impossible but tough

Retired, work is a four letter word.
Traction boards and 10 Gal of gas, this works fine for me as I don't haul a lot of gear off road. I have since added a tool box between the cans to go along with the 2 swing cases for recovery gear. And the can spouts fit the capless filler fine without a funnel.

You can create a new thread and there is an option under the text entry box to create a poll. Once you click that, the options for the poll are shown to enter your choices, etc.

I would be surprised if we couldn't come up with a couple hundred people interested in this, assuming the price is not astronomical.

For me, as long as it is baffled and in the 28+ gallon range, I would jump on board!

Same.

I don’t need 30+ gallons, but I’d be interested for a tank in the mid to upper 20’s range.
