I'm all for pushing the limits and I sincerely hope for the best outcome for you but it's worth understanding that the m190 in the ROW trucks is spec'd with a steel housing while the US spec Ranger received an alloy housing. This is the concern. We have all been looking at the ROW Rangers for...
Aus got a stronger spec diff to handle a locker. The US spec M190 is comparably much lighter duty. It was a thorn in my side for years. 4:70 gears don't actually fit despite appearing so in the parts diagrams and the soft metal housing cannot handle a locker. The path forward is an...
Be careful, we get a weaker front diff that is not designed to handle a locker. I swapped in a Bronco Sasquatch diff with a factory locker to solve this issue.
The spare will fit. I have a 35x12.50r17 in the stock spare location. Be sure to add an additional safety strap as the stock spare tire winch cannot handle the weight of an oversized tire. Otherwise, youāre good to go.
FWIW, I have this setup and really like it. Super clean, factory looking install. Runs all my lights and ARB compressor

Quick update after a couple more days of driving in a variety of conditions.
- In drive (D) the tendency for the tranny to pull a couple gears too high (lugging) and the lag to downshift is still irritating. Drive remains useless except at highway speeds.
- In sport mode (S) the shifting and...
They told me there was housing contact and that it was within the realm of possibility to clearance. Maybe a little grinding would have done it but judgment call was to hold for M210. I wish I had more for you but thatās all I know.
I wonāt pretend to be the guy who was attempting the install in the 190 but it was described to me that the ting gear made contact with the housing. This was not apparent when we reviewed the parts diagrams. To be clear, this was specifically 4:56ās. I have no idea if other ratos may work...
Iāve got a ā21 Ranger that has had the full APG Pro-Runner treatment. For those not familiar, that includes carbon fiber fenders and bedsides to make room for long travel suspension and 35ā tires. The plan was to re-gear to 4:56 back in ā21 but APG discovered that the would not fit in the...
I put a SmartCap on mine after removing the GFC. Itās not exactly cheap and the install process is a PITA but it looks great and offers a lot of functionality.
Ha! Iām a long time Toyota fan having owned 3 4-runners, an 82 pickup, 87 FJ60, and currently own an ā02 Taco with a 5 spd. The amount of joy I get out of that old Taco is beyond rational. But I love itās buzzing and whirling mechanical sounds and that sense of deliberate action driving a...
Sounds like a killer project! Donāt listen to the haters. Arguing that the 10 spd is technologically superior and therefore the best choice completely ignores the value in the connected experience only a manual can provide. I for one love my Ranger but am only just tolerant of the 10 spd.
Hey guys, little update here. Gearing is now possible as noted but requires an m210 upgrade. Specs on 4.56's look like they clear the m190 but the ring gear just contacts the housing. A few trucks have been done using the Bronco Sasquatch m210 but there's a bunch of custom work to make it...
