I think changing transmission fluid/filter will the first profession service done on my truck...
I just talked to my dealer Sid and it's the best $210 I'll probably ever spend ;)
I'm just shy of 41K now and a little concerned about the trans temps I'm seeing. I was staying right around 199-200F all the time once warmed up....now I'm seeing 210F when I push it. Not that it's out of range (dealer told me 190F to 230F) but I want to make sure she stays nice and happy for many more miles!

How are you getting readings for trans temp?

I found a PID for it.....I bet you would like the equation for that Sid, aren't you running Torque Pro?

PID:
221e1c

Min Value:
-40.0

Max Value:
300.0

Scale Factor:
1x

Unit type:
*F

Equation:
(((signed(A)*256)+B)*(9/8)+320)/10

BTW...the unit type is degree symbol F. I couldn't find that symbol so I used an asterick. I think it autofills that anyway. Enjoy!

Also, credit to Gizmokid2005 for the PID...

It is in the extra Ford specific PIDs you can add to Torque Pro.

I can't speak for Torque pro but with the Livernois calibrator and Ford Procal4 there is a trans temp pid you can watch

True, but you can get a really cheap Android tablet (I have an old Fire 7) to run Torque Pro on. Heck the app is only $5 once you have the tablet. I don't see a cheaper way to get real time sensor data from our Rangers. I just checked and you can get a new Fire 7 on Amazon for $49 or a refurb for $39. I am an iPhone user but couldn't resist having an easy gauge setup. I love the fact you can have a set of daytime gauges and nighttime.

Honestly Frenchy, the Livernois gauges leave much to be desired. Also, since I frequent the big city for work....I worry about keeping the Calibrator on the dash/windshield for fear of theft. Heck, auto thefts are up 82% in the Denver metro because the cops aren't going after them because of COVID....totally ridiculous!
Criminals are definitely reaping many benefits from this pandemic BS!

Glad we have a great place to park at the city I work for. We share the lot with the PD's personal vehicles so NOBODY messes with that area. ;)

this might be a stupid question, but how/where exactly do you add fluid if you're low? I have driveline vibration and would rather add the transmission fluid and troubleshoot myself prior to taking it to the dealer - this is my only vehicle and would rather not sit at the dealer all day.

***i know where the dipstick is, i guess what i'm asking is if thats the fill as well? if so how in gods name do you get the fluid there lol

I hated working on transmission with no dipstick. You have to be on spot. Because there is no dipstick. So getting it up to temperature, putting in fluid, driving vehicle, back on the lift and checking fluid level again. By this time its nice and hot, temperature is already 100 outside, remove bolt check fluid with engine on, raise lift
Big process. So tech has to be good or he just caused thousands in damages

Anyone know if Forscan will allow you to check trans temp? I have OBDLink and I can't find a gauge for trans temp
