Changed oil in my own rigs all of my life, but I am unable to find where the level is supposed to be on the dipstick.

This is my first oil change on my 2019.

EDIT:
Bought 5 quart Mobil 1 Full Synthetic and 1 quart along with it sorry! I bought one 5 quart and 2 1 quarts. Added 6 quart and then in the attached picture I added 0.2.

I do not have a vacuum pump to suck oil out. I just opened the pan and let it drain till it stopped dripping. Same with the filter.

attached is my oil level after starting the truck for 5 minutes, and sat for 30 minutes.

I have sat the truck for 2 weeks, and I drew a line in a picture where the oil was at after sitting for 2 weeks.

also attached is a picture of the mark on the 1 quart of Mobil 1

Does everything look normal? I’d hate to overfill. Thanks and God bless.

Oil capacity is 6.2 quarts. Your oil level is at the botom hole on the dipstick. You have to dip the stick in about 3 inches from fully seated a couple or more times and wipe between dips before you can get an accurate reading. Without removing the lingering oil in the dipstick tube and guides your reading wont be the oil pan level.

From your owners manual...

Thanks. I had the wife look through it with me. We couldn’t find it, but I’m glad you included the page. Probably just glanced over it. No big deal, and I appreciate you.

I’ll try that. I was just more concerned with it being over the top hole after sitting for a few weeks - I’ll assume that’s normal, correct? Thanks!

I wouldn't know why the oil level would rise while it sits.

And, with all the good things about the ranger, the manual ain't one of them.

The 4 times I've changed the oil on my Ranger.... I put in 6 quarts of oil, and it registers at the hashmark.. at the correct level.

You did remove the oil filter and replaced it with a new one, correct?

I drain the oil by first removing the oil fill plug on top of the motor. Then remove the oil pan plug, then put the plug back in, then remove the oil filter and install the new oil filter, then remove the drain plug in the oil pan again. Quite a bit of oil runs out the second time.

That's not normal..... Have you seen this thread that Metalshift eluded to above? The Fuel In Oil Thread

I have. I’ve put 50 miles on the truck since the last change. That’s been 2 weeks ago. Been parked since. I’ve followed that thread religiously. I changed my oil at 1,200 at the dealer, then at 2,800 on my own.
If it is at the top hole with less than 5 1/2 quarts in it you should read the fuel in oil thread.
so I’ve overfilled it. Correct?

Update! Guys I’m an idiot. Going to edit the post.

I bought 7 quarts. Added 6 total, and the picture attached is the bottle I added the least of. For the .2quarts. That’s why it’s marked.

I’m just asking if I’ve overfilled it. Sorry!

Maybe... or it might the Fuel in Oil issue. Does the oil smell like gas?

Keep an eye on it. If it keeps rising, take it to the dealer.

In the meantime.... don't worry about it... life is short.

Happy Trails.. :like:

I updated my post. I’m an idiot. I put 5 quart and 1 quart in it. And I also put 0.2 quarts out of the bottle picture I posted. So if that’s the case my oil level is fine per the pictures?

Mine's never been that high. But your at the maximum, per the manual, so no worries.

Like I said, just keep an eye on it. ;)

Rule number 1: when your manual says your vehicle holds X number of quarts, never drain the oil, change the filter and add X number of quarts. You can not assume that you drained 100% of the oil out. So, put in about 1/2 quart less than the X, then check it. If not indicating full, add some oil

this is where the line stops after sitting for 15 minutes with a 5 minute run. So it’s not at the top hole. After sitting for 2 weeks it was at the top hole, but after starting and running it’s just barely over the hash mark.
Think she’s good?
