I own two 10 speeds. The wife's Mustang, and my Ranger. I've come to the realization that Ford's 10 speeds are just plain stupid, so I just live with 'em. As I understand it GM has their 10 speeds (developed along with Ford) programming on the spot, but I can't confirm that. If so, it looks like Ford could do a better job in programming their's.

Well i have 3500 miles on it and not any better...must be a slow learner. Still want to check the fluid for peace of mind.
I was talking 5,000 to 10,000 miles at 3500 miles your barely broken in. Yes definately have them check the level.

yep. 3rd to 4th or 4th to 5th it might jerk. I like to think that it is characteristic of high performance engineering!

Good luck with checking the level once you find out where it is and how to do it. It’s a biotch.

Mine shifted silky smooth from mile number 10 when I got it right up to 10k miles nine months later when Ford bought it back for another issue.

Yep, the dipstick is in a shitty place, but I know how to check mine, if I ever need too. Anyway, my '21 didn't jerk, but it went all the way to 10th too early, before I got an Unleashed tune. Drive it in Sport mode and see how it is? Sport mode shifts much better than normal ole Drive mode :D

2021 XLT 4x4. Just purchased in October and noticed the transmission is very Jerky. Had it to the dealership who reset it to factory specs and it's still jerky even after 3500 miles. Is this normal for a ford? This is my first and maybe the last ford.
Mine was "jerky" in Drive until I tuned it with Ford Performance Tune. Drive is much better now. Sport was always cool and is even better now. Now I just choose one or the other depending on driving conditions and have no complaints. There are quite a few threads on here discussing the various tunes, their advantages, disadvantages, etc. Good luck with your truck and its transmission.

Did you test drive it before you purchased. Did you notice it then?

The only time mine is "jerky" is when I'm in Sports mode, with the go pedal to the floor, the RPM right at 6,200, the boost close to 22 PSI, and the shift from 1 to 2, 2 to 3, and 3 to 4, occur. Each and every one repay me with an elongated tire squeal, and/or a satisfying tire chirp on that last up shift. By that time, I'm well over the state's highest speed limit!

I had the same thing with my transmission, also a 2021. Gears 1-5 are hard shifts, with 4th being the worst. Downshifts when stopping also caused the truck to surge with every gear change. I would say 85% of my shifts were fine but the others were very noticeable. Took mine in last week and they performed TSB 21-2357. Got it back Thursday so I am in the relearning phase which has been filled with terrible shifts. Hoping it clears up soon.

Yes and nope. Mine isn't consistent when it wants to shift weird, but now it's only on a 3 to 5 skip so it's getting way better.

I have had my Ranger for almost 3 years, coming up on 30k miles, and I have had exactly two strange things with my 10 speed:
  1. When it is cold, the first shift (either 1-2 or 1-3 depending) it is pretty rough. Subsequent shifts are fine.
  2. I've had 2 or 3 instances on a downshift to 8th gear when under light load that had a rough downshift.
Other than those two things, the majority of the time I can't even tell it shifted if I wasn't looking at the gear number indicator. It shifts exceptionally smooth the vast majority of the time.

Mine is the same. It's my one major dislike about this truck. It upshifts smooth for the most part, but downshift is jerky as hell, especially around town and when I'm about to come to a stop. I get a feeling as if someone tapped my rear bumper if I don't slow down just right before fully stopping
