damn. you hear folks saying things in situations like these that are like," go for it, f it or get some". well, he went for it. he got some and he f-ed it.

His last name must be Duke. just a good ol boy.
that was a nice piece of air he got. but what a hard hit. lucky he didnt snap his dang neck.
We have a Duke @DukeCanBuildit here but I don't think he'd even try doing this?

Come to think of it maybe after a couple of these :beer: and a few of these ?? he probably would. He did paint his car one with a brush and a roller and was perfectly sober at the time. ??

in my "mind sealed unit" or "non repairable" just means planned obsolescence and future cash flow planned out ahead.
In my mind it means they don't want to manage a zillion individual parts. A few years in if you want cheap you can scavenge the junkyard. For something like this I'm not sure it really matters much in practical terms--once you blow up one part and then run the chunks through the rest you're going to have to replace all the parts. Unless you're DIY (in which case, hit the junkyard) it wouldn't be cheaper or faster to pay someone to disassemble the unit, figure out which parts need to be replaced, order the parts, install the parts, etc, vs just replacing the unit.

But usually it's a gear and pinion which can be changed while out on the trail. Some carry extras just in case this happens and they can go on with their day/weekend off roading. Now with this sealed unit you SOL and cant fit it and at the mercy of getting a whole new axle which might be unavailable like this one. Personally I think this is a dumb move for something like the Bronco that's "supposed" to be an off road vehicle made to compete with the Jeep. Sure many will be mall crawlers but there are a lot already doing some pretty extreme off roading. This was just a dumb move by the owner but we all know many more will do something like this.

I'm skeptical that the unit is "sealed" vs Ford testing it as a non serviceable unit for parts purposes. That is, I suspect that if you scrounge up parts you can change them to your heart's content. My father explained this to me many years ago when I was little and the blower motor went out on our car. Manufacturer treated a whole assembly (motor, fan, housing, etc) as a unit, to the cost of several hundred bucks. We pulled the blower motor, took it to the small engine repair shop to replace the brushes, easy operation--like two screws to drop the motor if I remember right all these years later, as though the engineers intended it to be easy to service. But the manufacturer just didn't want to deal with stocking and tracking all the small parts. (And even if they did, you'd hear no end to the bitching about how much they'd charge for all those little parts...) Anyway, I haven't seen this particular unit and maybe it really is welded shut, but I expect it's just bad word choice on the video. (If it can't be opened, how do they know which components are broken?)

Edit to add: with a sample size of one there probably isn't enough public data to know which parts (if any) are worth a person carrying for the bronco. Maybe there will be a common failure that becomes well known and worth preparing for, maybe there won't.

The Bronco is a failed attempt at a market owned by jeep. Should have put a solid axle up front.

To be fair, I've wondered the same thing about some of you guys while watching you mod your trucks to go places similar to that.
Then again, it's fun for me to see the things you all do with it.

In his follow-up. "I don't know if it's going to be covered under warranty, I hope Ford pays for this."

………or was I?

I’d never try anything that dumb. Seriously, who drives their Bronco in a bog like it was a trophy truck in the desert?
