You could always get a Mahin
Everybody has an opinion so here's mine. I've had Jeeps most of my life. I still have a 97 Wrangler TJ I bought new that's heavily modified and runs great. Newer models have some issues... I recently traded my 3.6 Wrangler Unlimited (4 doors) Rubicon for my '21 FX4 Lariet for a reason. 2 years ago I got rid of my 3.6L Grand Cherokee and they both had the same problem. Camshaft location sensor CELs. The first time it happened to my JKU, it went to the dealer and got a new camshaft, phasers, and sensors... $1800. Just over a year later the same CEL's popped up so I decided to give one of the local off-road shops a chance. They said they had good success just replacing the sensors and resetting the system. Lasted about 10 months before I started getting the same codes. The Jeep CAN bus electrical system has some issues.... like the horn delays, and windows randomly won't go down or back up without restarting the vehicle. Water leaks are a common complaint both from the top and the floorboards. To be fair, I used the JKU to its max off-road and it was awesome, but the reliability after a while went downhill drastically. Take a look over at wranglerforum.com for the latest issues folks run into. I NEVER thought I'd own anything other than a Jeep, but now I won't own another one.
My 2008 JK had all sorts of issues with lifters ticking like mad almost from day one. Dealer never could get it fixed. Only kept it for 8 months because of it. My 81 CJ8 had a inline six that was bullet-proof though.

I personally would avoid the 3.6. The fleet I work on includes about ~20 JK wranglers. All of them have had cam sensor related issues, as well as timing issues. Our old TJs with the 4.0 have way less problems with twice as many miles. I think the 2.0 turbo or the diesel option would be neat.
Thanks Lane. Working on these you see it all the time so it's good to hear this first hand.

Screw it, I'm getting the 392 Hemi! ?

I mean, it seems reasonable to me, it only starts at $74k! What about the diesel? When I was going back and forth over Ranger and Gladiator, I always built it with the diesel. All that torque.

I'll look closer into the 2.0 and never had any desire for a diesel. The torque is great but it's not like the Rubicon is a towing machine and the off roading I do with my Ranger the 2.0 should be fine.

I have found that most diesels actually lose towing capacity because the heavy ass engine takes adds to GVW and takes away from payload capacity. I don't know if that's true for Jeep but it is for lots of half ton trucks. I was thinking about it more for crawling and off-roading purposes. Lots of low-end torque coming out.

Dave, why not use the ranger for off-road/daily duty and get a sports car instead of another offroader? Lol. My 5-10 year plan has me doing something like that.
He could buy a Roxor, pretend it's a Jeep and then spend the money he saved on a nice sports car or roadster of some kind. We're solving all his problems!

Bonus: go to 4:10 to see a crazy f150 raptor almost losing it HAHA. Trying to show off a bit too much there.

If you want the ultimate off-roader, look into one of these 2 options.

Pinzgauer

Rokon (2WD Motorcycle)

Both suck for daily driving though ?

Thanks Jim. I have been lurking on the JL forum and they do seem very helpful over there. I saw one post where someone was asking about the 2.0 vs the 3.6 and as expected it had many varying opinions and of course the "mine's better because posts". lol

Last night I searched for 2dr vs 4dr and like you and others have said here it depends on what you're going to use it for. For me it's a toy and having the 4dr Ranger helps when needing the extra passenger room. If I ever sold my Ranger and needed the extra room I'll just rent a car for that time. Heck I did that all the time when I had my Tacoma and we went on vacation as I hated driving it. There's a $3,500 difference between the 2dr/4dr which pays for a lot of rentals if needed. All along I was going to get a 2dr Bronco so it's not like I'm changing my mind trying to save money now.

I'm still going to wait a couple weeks before making any decisions in hopes Ford does the right thing. Like you I'll keep my Bronco order and if I walk away from it I'll let Granger have it so they can mark it up for resale if they wish to.
Brother, get the 2 door. I just spent 2 hours cleaning just the outside that big ass Jeep of mine, and it wasn't even that dirty. :giggle: I cleaned the inside a few days ago so I wouldn't have to add another hour to the job today. :turkey: :turkey: :turkey: :turkey: :turkey:
