Vehicles I’ve driven with it just didn’t impress me much. The engine reminds me of Toyota’s 4.0L, a reputation for being reliable but dated and kind of thirsty for what it puts out. Also, while shopping used Jeeps for my daughter a while back I found a lot of them with engines replaced at around the 60k mile mark.

A lot of people like the 3.6L but I’m not a fan. Loved Jeep’s 4.0L inline 6 though.
This guy gets it.

Dave, if you want to wheel a jeep why not save some money, build a trail rig, and tow it with your Ranger.

YJs and TJs are getting cheap. Well, before everything got expensive.

Not sure what they tow without it. But with the Max tow package they tow about the same as a Ranger.

Perhaps your salesman was talking out of their ass? It's easy to spot when a car salesman does this. Their lips are moving.

Nice. Thanks for a better explanation of the trim.
I based that off Jeep having it at the Chicago Auto Show and saying it was available on 2022 models but looking at Jeeps BP page, I don't actually see it as a package option for the Willy's yet. So maybe they've changed their minds.

Edit - I think it's not on the BP page because they are still showing 2021 models; no 2022 yet.

Perhaps he WAS talking out his ass. He did try to tell me they were $70,000 vehicles and I don't see that especially since they had four or five of them. I was on a Ranger at the time and who knows what he was really up to. That was the day I went over to the Toyota dealership and bought my 2019 XLT Sport and got a better deal on that by $5000 compared to the used one he was trying to sell me.

@AzScorpion They're right brother Dave, Rangers and Jeeps do go together. As I said before the 3.6L isn't a ground pounder, but it does everything I ask of it without any grumbles. Mine has the 32's, and it will get anywhere from 23-25 at 70 mph. But of course a head wind will drop it a bit. Around town it's 18-19 all day long. The 3.6L has proven it's reliablity, and with the 8 speed I think you'll agree they work great together. I don't know much about the 2.0L, but those that have them are happy with their preformance. However, I think I would still take the 3.6L if I was buying today. We all know how unpredictible mpgs can be with a turbo, if that's a concern for you. We took ours on a 5K+ road trip, and had a blast. A this point in the Bronco fiasco I'm just gonna keep my Wrangler. I'm not going worry about Ford's BS anymore. If my Bronco ever shows up I'll decide then if I really want the thing. I know everyone says the 2-door is the way to go, but if you want to do anything other than ride around in your Jeep then the 4-door is the more practible. And, of all the questions I've been ask about mine no one has ever ask "Why didn't you get a 2-door". Here's a link to a very good Jeep forum with a lot of great folks. They love to help Jeep newbie's with their questions, and can help you your choice of engines. Good luck on your decision my friend. I know where you're at, and how hard it is to make that decision

Finally had time today to go to my local Jeep dealer and test drive a new Jeep. They actually had two Rubicons in stock, one was a 4dr the other a 2dr both had the 3.6L, 8 speed trans. on 33's. I got to take it out on the highway and got it up to 75 mph without the notorious death wobble I've heard about. It did drive very smooth, steering was tight and responsive and comparable to the Bronco I drove. Seat position was very good and comfortable and it had a good view over the hood where you could see the whole front end.

The rear cargo in the 2dr is really small and looks smaller than the Bronco 2dr. It got me thinking it might be better getting the 4dr in the event I one day get rid of my Ranger it would be a nightmare for someone to get in the rear seats of that 2dr and having the extra room for trips would be nice too. The 4dr was obviously a little smoother too with the longer wheel base.

Is anyone familiar with both the engine options which are the 2.0L 4cyl turbo or the 3.6L V6 e Torque? Thoughts? I'm leaning more towards the 3.6L V6 which I though drove good and it's been around a lot longer and in many of their models. Anything else I should be looking at or adding?

All in all I wouldn't be disappointed driving this and it was surprisingly way better than I anticipated. Another plus is that I could get it somewhere around 60-90 days as Jeep PRIORITIZES customer orders BEFORE dealer stock. Hear that Ford! Now I'm just waiting for a couple dealers to get back to me with their below invoice pricing.

Here's the two choices so far in 4dr
I have had experience with two jeep wranglers. A 2010, two door and a 2019, four door. Both low mileage rentals, both driven out west at higher elevation. Both automatic with the Pentastar V6. I also currently own a 2018 Caravan with the Pentastar V6.

My only real gripe with these vehicles is the motor. The power is way to high in the revs for me. I much prefer low rpm torque like every V8 and Ecoboost I have ever owned. The V6 runs well if you don't mind ringing it's neck. I would be interested in the eTorque driving experience since it may help with that low end grunt the Pentastar lacks. My wife and I comment all the time about how much we miss our Ecoboost Flex when hauling all our kids and the kitchen sink.

Thanks for the feedback Justin. The 3.6L didn't seem all that bad and IIRC at 75 mph the tach was around 2000 rpm's. Now you do have to lay into more from a dead stop compared to our Rangers and for me it's even more noticeable since mine is tuned. Even driving the stock 2.3 Bronco back in July I noticed a huge difference from mine. Another local deal is getting a shipment in a couple weeks and there's a few 2.0L on it. I'm hoping to test one of those as long as it doesn't get sold before delivery.

Thanks Jim. I have been lurking on the JL forum and they do seem very helpful over there. I saw one post where someone was asking about the 2.0 vs the 3.6 and as expected it had many varying opinions and of course the "mine's better because posts". lol

Last night I searched for 2dr vs 4dr and like you and others have said here it depends on what you're going to use it for. For me it's a toy and having the 4dr Ranger helps when needing the extra passenger room. If I ever sold my Ranger and needed the extra room I'll just rent a car for that time. Heck I did that all the time when I had my Tacoma and we went on vacation as I hated driving it. There's a $3,500 difference between the 2dr/4dr which pays for a lot of rentals if needed. All along I was going to get a 2dr Bronco so it's not like I'm changing my mind trying to save money now.

I'm still going to wait a couple weeks before making any decisions in hopes Ford does the right thing. Like you I'll keep my Bronco order and if I walk away from it I'll let Granger have it so they can mark it up for resale if they wish to.

The Gladiators, depending on options, can get up there. One of the things that kept me away when shopping.

My advice would be.......guess. Tough decision though. Jeep resale is very good in a couple years if you change your mind.

Nice looking Jeep, I love that 2dr look! ? Jeep has a cult following just like the Tacoma. Plus with the 4-5% below invoice pricing that helps with the first year depreciation not taking such a hit.

Everybody has an opinion so here's mine. I've had Jeeps most of my life. I still have a 97 Wrangler TJ I bought new that's heavily modified and runs great. Newer models have some issues... I recently traded my 3.6 Wrangler Unlimited (4 doors) Rubicon for my '21 FX4 Lariet for a reason. 2 years ago I got rid of my 3.6L Grand Cherokee and they both had the same problem. Camshaft location sensor CELs. The first time it happened to my JKU, it went to the dealer and got a new camshaft, phasers, and sensors... $1800. Just over a year later the same CEL's popped up so I decided to give one of the local off-road shops a chance. They said they had good success just replacing the sensors and resetting the system. Lasted about 10 months before I started getting the same codes. The Jeep CAN bus electrical system has some issues.... like the horn delays, and windows randomly won't go down or back up without restarting the vehicle. Water leaks are a common complaint both from the top and the floorboards. To be fair, I used the JKU to its max off-road and it was awesome, but the reliability after a while went downhill drastically. Take a look over at wranglerforum.com for the latest issues folks run into. I NEVER thought I'd own anything other than a Jeep, but now I won't own another one.

That's to bad you had bad luck with them. Sadly every manufacturer has their issues and unless it's wide spread there's nothing we can do but hope we get a good one. There have been a few on here that have had leaking rear axles and other issues where those like myself have been trouble free. I'll be reading the JL forum more before I make a decision but even in this post most are happy with their Jeep and some are not. I don't think there's one manufacturer that has a perfect record.

I personally would avoid the 3.6. The fleet I work on includes about ~20 JK wranglers. All of them have had cam sensor related issues, as well as timing issues. Our old TJs with the 4.0 have way less problems with twice as many miles. I think the 2.0 turbo or the diesel option would be neat.
