It made my heart skip a beat when I saw the thread title. My first thought was the damper failed and now someone was walking around looking like this.

There are several things somewhat slicker than Astroglide, and a whole lot less expensive. It is called J-lube, but it is sold under several names. It is also the stuff Hollywood uses to make slime. It is a polyethylene polymer mixed with sucrose.

A 10 Oz. jar is about $20 from Amazon, and will make several gallons of slime, if that is what you're into! Even a half teaspoon of J-lube in an ounce of water, is enough to lube several tire rims.
