Unleashed, mild perf. tune. I would not blame this on the tune from Torrie. I drive her pretty hard, so a 3900 repair cost is the cost of doing business.
i appreciate your candor and realistic expectations of what can happen when you push a motor hard. Sounds like you’ve enjoyed your truck.

time to belly up to the Barr . I remember using barr's stop leak on a radiator many years back and it was awesome. and as you can see you currently may qualify a $10 rebate !

Just want to remind people NOT to use stop leak. It's absolutely terrible. Especially ones for coolant. It clogs passages and CAN cause more issues than the leak would. If you are really hurting for cash, sure. But really try to avoid using it if you can.

Agreed! It was refreshing to hear a grown up take ownership and not cast the blame on everything except himself! You gotta pay to play is the right attitude.

That's the right attitude Jeff. As they say, "If you want to play, you've got to pay". Been there, done that. Keep us updated if possible. Good luck.

To say I drive spirited is an understatement, places to be and things to do. When its done will I reinstall Torrie’s tune? of course.
100% on your boat.

You really can't drive that fast for that long on the street. You run out of asphalt or run into trees. The WOT for every on ramp gets old after a while. Now if you mean you're dragging a 7000 lb trailer with 90 ft of frontal area over the Rockies every day, that's another story.
TFL did another trailer pull over IIRC the pass near Vail. It was a Chevy HD vs the new 150 hybrid. The HD did fine. The 150 overheated and went into automatic load shedding.

I saw that. To be fair, that wasn’t apples to apples. That HD had a much higher towing capacity than that F150. The F150 was at its max tow rating as I recall.

Not saying you have a blown gasket OP, but I found this video to be pretty interesting.

Be interesting to see how many people start blowing head gaskets running really aggressive tunes. Also to see if @PascoPatio can find out where the failure was with the head gasket and see if it's consistent with the info in this video or if it's due to the overheat condition.

This is very disappointing. I ran my Subaru's with aggressive tunes their entire lives, over 220k miles on the 2.0 turbo forester suv and never had a single engine issue and I drive super! aggressively, like constantly. If the gasket failure is indeed due to the tune then I am already regretting buying this truck new... I guess I'll find out in a couple years.

Nobody expected the 150 to out pull the Duramax. They also didn't expect it to shed load at 2700 lbs less than it's max trailering weight. The 150 hybrid is rated at 12,700 maximum towing. They said they were at 10k. Maybe the manufacturers should add that grade to their towing tests.

The Boxster engine is entirely different than the 2.3 I4 EcoBoost. So it's not really a fair comparison. It's not the tune itself that the video is outlining. What he cites is a combination of poorly designed exhaust runners and inability of the exhaust turbine to prevent excessive back pressure on cyl 2 and 3 when running an aggressive tune and stock turbo. This can result in what is shown in the video if the conditions are right. One of the things that flagged for me is the Mustang owner was running an E85 setup, so who knows what other mods were done that could have also contributed to the damage.

The video said that F150 was rated at 11,000 towing capacity, so that trailer almost maxed it out. I’d have to see how other half ton trucks with a similar tow rating could handle the test to draw any conclusions.

Either way it's at least 1000 lbs below spec capacity. Who knows. That grade might become the internet's real towing test.
