Ford looks to be having a lot of interest in all their new vehicles. Lets hope the next couple launches go better than the Bronco one. :sunglasses:

This is a great move for them too!

Ford Buying Electriphi

To further help commercial customers, Ford said it will acquire Electriphi, a California-based provider of charging and fleet monitoring software to help commercial customers ensure productivity by offering depot charging for EV fleets and help fleet managers monitor their vehicles. Depot charging adds to other options including charging at home or at public stations, the locations of which will be mapped in the vehicle’s telematics system. Customers must sign up for Electriphi’s charge management services.

The Ford+ plan under Farley is designed to guide the automaker’s transition to electric vehicles that are better connected to their owners. Ford is spending $30 billion by 2025 on electrification efforts. Farley says Ford spending will be on par with anyone and will only go up.

They should invest in their own chip making factories. Otherwise they can be held hostage in all of the tech
I'm guessing they have a plan set up with the two companies who are building chip factories here in AZ now. At least I would hope they and all the others have learned their lesson NOT to depend on China!

Or, just re-evaluate the just-in-time inventory model and not cancel *500k of chip orders next time?

Yeah it still mind blowing that they did this. They knew things would turn around after Covid so why not stock up and be prepared? But it looks like ALL the manufacturers had the same idea which is kind of scary in who's making these decisions. :headbang:

Not sure about how other states do it but in my company you get taxed on held inventory. Yup, raw materials are taxed at end of year if not made into products that are also taxable. What this does is gets management into the JIT model to keep these penalties at bay. With a company the size of Ford this would amount to many millions.

Then comes paying for it once delivered. 90 days is up, covid hosed our production and we got all these parts to warehouse.

Not as easy as it looks… ?

Well I can see MA taxing everything they can and they do! But I'm ASSuming there must be a way around this and a state that doesn't tax raw materials that are just shelved. Seems they could've found a way around this if that were the case where they store them. I know Covid was unexpected but it would've been smart to buy or lease a warehouse in a tax friendly state and store them or something? It's not like these chips take up a lot of space and need a million sq ft building. ?‍♂

A work we get taxed on inventory so we are forced to have low numbers of necessary items. We don’t get the luxury of having 5 each $80,000 valves for the future just in case.

And then there is a different charge for issuing the item out of the warehouse. I can remember once we were discouraged from making a repair today because the quarterly budget period ends tomorrow. So management didn’t allow the repair to start until two days for budget purposes.

Yeah, but how many millions/billions are they losing because of that decision? It seems like there is some middle ground between stockpiling and the JIT model where you have enough for a couple days of production.

I know I would certainly be re-thinking how much inventory I kept on hand after this whole debacle. There have been HUGE parts shortages for 5G Rangers throughout its whole lifespan - even before COVID - COVID just made a bad situation a lot worse.

So does this mean I need to take delivery of my Bronco FE if I plan on getting one. I was going to wait but essentially three years to get one seems horrible.

I was able to switch out of the Navy Pier to the black onyx. Wish they would have offered the saddle interior like was advertised intially.

move out of taxachusetts easy solution, maybe buy a gun and some freedom when you leave.

Good deal.

Canceled my reservation in Dec. Last I saw Navy Pier was the only option.

That's exactly what I did and my only regret was waiting so long to do it! The only problem is now living in a FREE state I spent the first 3 years draining my bank account buying every gun and suppressor I wasn't allowed to have back in MA.
