I second this quote (and thought). They should NOT have required the trigger pull to transit from D to N. I never drove another vehicle that requires this.
I am sure there was no intent to go to Park. It was just a too aggressive a move from S to D and the detent failed to engage to prevent further movement.
I had been in S and once at speed didn’t need it to rev high etc and longer. I didn’t slam it or even apply much force at all. I baby the hell out of my cars when they’re brand new. What I didn’t know was that it didn’t require the trigger to be pulled to move from S to N, which is apparently why it didn’t hit the lockout. I still think it’s a bit crazy that even with the trigger pressed, you can shift from drive into reverse or park.
I’ve only had the truck for a few days so I hadn’t noticed that yet weird that there is no mention of that in the manual at all. I suppose it’s easier to learn by simply putting the car in reverse or park while driving, posting on a forum and waiting for everyone who already knew to let you know how dumb you are for not already knowing
oh well, at least it appears no damage was done.
With that trigger depressed, you’d be shocked how little effort it took. I’m very very easy on my vehicles. It happened so quickly I didn’t even know what had happened for a moment. The way each of the selections have a sort of peak and valley, they almost pull the lever along. The crazy part was that once it happened, it wouldn’t come back out of park until I came to a stop.
I hope so cause it sure sounded awful, metallic ratcheting sound of the parking pawl trying to engage.
