Hey all, first post.

Just did a deal on a 2020 Lariat FX4 @ msrp minus incentives of ~3,500, so $43,189 plus accessories plus 1.9% at 84 months. (For context a fully loaded Lariat here can sticker for north of 52k. Coming from US walking around dealerships is always an exercise in sticker shock given exchange rates. But Ford and other domestics price nowhere near exchange rates so MSRP is significantly cheaper here factoring for exchange -- this is equivalent of 32.8k US.)

I'm usually a big negotiator but it feels like Canadian dealers are able to hold the line pretty well on price and there just aren't a lot of 2020s left. (There are NO Colorados to be found but I don't want one anyway.) Only one within province that had what I want. I got a decent price on my trade-in so was willing to pay something for no hassle.

Haven't picked it up yet. To me it's actually a really reasonable price for the value I feel I'm getting. And I think a lot of times people focus solely on deal price relative to MSRP while meanshile paying thousands for options they they don't need or even want. (80% of trucks seemed to have $700 running boards and I'm sure the B&O is nice, but 3k?) This truck has nothing I don't.

Still can't help asking myself the old "am I getting hosed" question. Having nightmare that people are getting like 10k off elsewhere. Did I leave too many Loonies on the table?

So you're saying you paid around 39.6 canadian which is roughly equal to around 32.8k USD? For a Lariat Fx4 that sounds like a very good deal to me. Brand new right? Crew cab? I've been looking at those for a while now and they are MSRP around 40k, 41k with Fx4 package. I would think a good deal would be around 35k so 32.... I'm not sure you could do much better (if at all) than that. As an active shopper, does anyone else want to weigh in?

From my research and dealer site searching, it seems like 2500 is minimum for a dealer discount. A good deal would be more like 3500-4500 (dealer discount) plus current rebates from Ford. I have seen numerous dealers offering 3500-3800 off of low (less than 100 ) mileage new Rangers so maybe they have another 500-1000 of wiggle room? Any dealer discounts over 4k typical are on 'loaner' / 'courtesy' vehicles with 2-4k+ miles.

Seems like inventory in my area is stable / rising so dealers are more willing to negotiate. Hopefully year-end will encourage them to close deals to pad their numbers for 2020.

No, I’m not that good a negotiator, lol. Paying 42 and change. That works out to 32.8. Figure I maybe got 1,500k more than I would have on the other side of deal with trade in value.

To the other poster re dealer off, I’m just not sure this is a US thing or not. Inventory here seems to be dropping in anticipation of 2021, if they are even still bringing them in. I only found one truck that matched my criteria in B.C. or AB.

my experience and talking to a few people in sales at other makes Canadian dealers seem quite a bit less open to massive deals. You don’t see the autotrader/cars.com effect where dealers are openly competing wih lowest advertised price.

I did a deal in July for a Lariat FX4 w 501a package for $45k CAD. This was in Ontario for context. The only Lariat on any nearby lot in a decent colour had the running boards and upgraded sound system so I just went for it. They are nice features that I'm enjoying. FWIW I think you got a great deal.

I know what you mean about inventory on Colorados. I called around for them and one dealer told me he'd have to get one from New Brunswick if I wanted it.

Thanks and yep, I mean with the interest rate deals it’s kind of crazy, at 8 years 1.9% is savings of 6k on top of that. So even if dealer is screwing me Ford is making up for it lol.

btw calculated it and at 1.9% my cost of money is only 3.4k over those eight years! (I don’t plan to keep it that long, will be trading in as soon as full ev or large battery plug in hybrid is available.)

Ford has to be making a lot less on every truck sold at MSRP than the US ones given exchange rate differences. I suspect they are giving US dealers a lot of back end cash in a addition to the advertised rebates. Dealers don’t give that much off unless they really have the space to do it.

My wife and I were speculating - coming from states - that it might also be a cultural thing. Deals seem to be a lot more straightforward up here and I think people avoid the confrontation of hard core negotiation; thats a massive generalization of course.

I just purchased my 2020 Ranger XLT 4WD FX4 for a little over 32k. Thats not counting taxes, down payment, etc. Was formally the showroom vehicle and had been driven around a bit so it had 700 miles on it. But it came with a sprayed in bed as well.

I just paid $42,345 for a 2020 fully loaded XLT (new) here in the Pacific Northwest. After taxes and fees it was $47,465. After reading this thread I feel like I may have gotten a bit ripped off. Perhaps not terribly so, but I definitely left some money on the table. The "list price" aka "if you're dumb enough not to ask price" was about $6,000 more pre-tax.

I didn't appreciate the high-pressure, rushed sale on commission; negotiating really isn't my thing but it's not like you have a choice with the domestic Big Three. Apparently these vehicles have been flying out the door now that people are settled into the current state of affairs with COVID-19, so I didn't have a lot of leverage. I did manage to get 0.9% APR, but had I purchased a few months prior it'd have been 0%.

At least I like the truck. Learned a few things to look out for next time I guess. :)

The list price on an XLT was 48k? That must have had some dealer add-ons. I'm not sure how you get an XLT to 48k - I just tried on the online pricing and got an XLT up to 44k but couldn't find a way to get it any higher than that.

There are dealers where you don't get the high pressure routine. I'd say they are more common now. There are SO MANY ways you can purchase a vehicle these days it isn't worth it (to me - some people like the negotiations part) to deal with the old school tactics. If a dealer does the high pressure thing with me I walk.

The dealer I bought from was great. I ordered my Ranger, they didn't try and upsell me on anything - I got exactly what I wanted, no high pressure, nothing extra. And I used X-Plan so I saved a reasonable amount - plus a few rebates that were available at the time. Another good option is to use the Costco auto program (if you are a Costco member). Pricing for that was almost identical to X-Plan.

Glad you like the truck!

There are some of us (me) who may not have gotten the best deal we possibly could have had we waited a bit. I was extremely excited , & March 2019 was as long as I was willing to wait. Will I ever pay this much for another vehicle? Heck no! Do I love my Ranger? You better believe it! :inlove:No regrets here. Look forward and enjoy your Ranger! Congratulations!
