Yea mine is hit or miss. So taking it in and having them try to make it happen is always impossible. Sigh
I’ll have no issue replicating it for them so hopefully I’ll know more this week. If it is indeed the issue, you have to remove some bolts and the boot and drop the whole drive shaft from the yoke then grease liberally.

I mentioned this in a longer post, but wanted to make this a stand alone topic. I notice almost every time I come to a stop there is a small clunk that I can feel. It usually happens after I stop and then let off the gas to start going again, or just before I come to a complete stop. How fast or slow I stop doesn't seem to make a difference. It's almost like a stutter, but the RPM's don't seem to move. It's like something is engaging or disengaging but I didn't notice it until a couple weeks ago. I plan to mention it at the first service but wanted to be armed with some ideas as to it's cause. Passengers have noticed it as well. It's not the start stop as I always have that off.

Thoughts?

Edit: Lariat FX4 SuperCrew
My truck does this all of the time. Going to mention it when I go for an oil change

Regarding those who may be inclined to separate the driveshaft and grease the splines, I would suggest marking the position of the two sections so that they can be assembled the same as originally.
I am making this recommendation due to the phasing issue that Phil brought up in his earlier posting.

Yes, they are balanced driveshafts and require this. I would hope that anyone who tries to do this themselves would have researched this and know beforehand.

I know this is a pretty old thread, but I’ve been feeling this thud after coming to a stop, and then another thud when letting off the brake to go again. Made my truck feel like something was wrong with it. Read this about the driveshaft slip yoke. So I took mine apart and re greased it. It had a little grease already on it but not much. Put it back together (I marked it before removal so to put it back in the same way it came out) and was able to reuse the metal clamp. It seems to have stopped the “thud”. It’s still barely noticeable, but much better. The transmission is definitely unlocking and locking up again I think, and the slip yoke is probably the reason you’re feeling this. If you’re noticing this problem you might want to lube your slip yoke. Just figured I’d let you guys know. Sorry for no pics. I was in a hurry to get it done.

I just picked mine up from the dealer yesterday...

They turned the rotors from runout of .009 to .001 and they were below minimum thickness, so they were then replaced.

Just the rotors were replaced. So now I have brand new rotors on pads that were pulsing and squeallling for the last 15K miles at least.

The brakes are still squealing and after driving the loaner Fusion, I am even more convinced there is air in the lines.

Truck is at 33376 miles now, and I've had about 8 iterations of new rotors, new pads, turned rotors, new pads and new rotors... Never once did they even think to look for something fundamentally out of whack somewhere else in the system.

How long did they have it to decide to lube the yolk?
Dropped it off Thursday night had it back by 4 Friday. I told them I felt a clunk when making a complete stop and when accelerating from a stop.

I did also mention I had ro drive it more than 10 min before I felt it and had to go through multiple stops before it was prominent.

My current Ranger has this and two of my previous F-150s did too. On the F-150's, it had to do with the drive shaft splines sticking and not sliding efficiently due to the factory not using enough grease when assembling them together. The resolution was to remove the driveshaft and regrease the splines. Solved the problem both times and I'm sure it will with my current Ranger as well but I'm waiting until the first service to just have the dealer take care of it.
Jason, you beat me to the punch. My '11 F-150 had the, what we used to call, "slop in the drive line". When I came to a stop, and them let off the brakes it felt like like drive line just settled back into place. I just lived with it in that truck, but knew the problem from being a member of a F-150 forum. I traded it for a '13, and never had a problem with it. I think you're onto something here as it sounds like some of the first Rangers suffer from the same malady.

I’ve also noticed almost a clunk in the brake pedal when coming to a complete stop, I’ve only noticed this clunk when the truck entered the Auto Start/Stop mode, once the vehicle “shuts off” about 2 seconds after, i feel the brake pedal clunk. This clunk does not return when the Auto Start/Stop is disabled. It must just have something to do with the Auto Start/Stop feature, maybe something that locks the truck in place?

anyways, hopefully this helps.

My 2021 fx4 does this. Been doing it since about 600 miles on it. Have an appt for the 0-10 vibe tsb and they said that may fix this. I'm going to impress on them that they are probably two different issues with two different fixes. One is shimming. Other is lubing.
