I will try to order the Embark/Retrax from my dealer soon, hopefully this week.

When I went to the San Jose Ranger Drive event, I didn’t realize I inadvertently got some photos of the tonneau cover.
Cool pictures. I think I am going to like that. I just hope it is properly waterproof.

No tonneau is truly waterproof, so you have to decide what you can live with with as far as leakage.

The hard fiberglass one piece painted covers are probably as waterproof as it gets, but no one seems to have built one yet for the Ranger.

I had an UnderCover (plastic) on my 2007 F-250 that worked perfectly. One for the Ranger should be easily handled by one person....I guess it would only weigh 40-50 lbs since the full size ones are about 75 lbs. And they can be painted (optional). I sent a question to them to see if they are planning on making one for the Ranger.....will update when they reply back.

Is it the Retrax PRO XR or the Embark LS that work with the Yakima setup on the Rangers??

RangerDanger is it the Retrax or the Embark? And have you already purchased one?
I believe they are one and the same. No I haven’t bought it yet but hopefully soon.

I've almost spend 2 grand on parts so I'll just wait for your install, are you planning on getting yakima accessories as well?

That’s the plan, at least sometime in the future when I can afford the Yakima rack too.

I did some research & called Embark. Their Ford rep told me Retrax is making the tonneau covers that you can order form the Ford dealer. I know they are expensive but I think that it is the best cover for me. When I ordered my Ranger they told me that all tonneau covers were late availability. Hopefully they will be available as a dealer accessory when my truck comes in in February.
^ This is who I got the info from.

Herm... forgive me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that part of the partnership with Yakima was that you could order them as "factory" (aka, dealer installed) accessories, and roll the price into the initial purchase price, and therefore can add the cost onto whatever you're financing.

In my case it really doesn't matter since I'm going to be selling my Escape privately and using the funds for a down payment on the Ranger... I can either put the full amount towards the down payment and roll in the cost of the accessories, or hold 3k back for the Yakima accessories (and tonneau cover) and drop the rest on the down payment... so in my case it really doesn't matter, except perhaps on timing (and if I can find the Yakima stuff on sale later), but for others, the ability to roll that 3k of accessories into the purchase price and therefore monthly payment seems like a huge advantage.

Because I wanted to wait until after I've had the truck for a few months. The Yakima is more of a want than a need, so I need to think on it.

I called my local dealership's parts department to order the Embark LS Retractable tonneau cover. Whomever I spoke to was useless and they kept trying to tell me that Ford doesn't stock tonneau covers, that I have to go to an independent tonneau cover shop to get them. I will now have to email my salesman to get this resolved, but I anticipate other people will have similar problems ordering factory accessories for the 2019 Ranger.

Plus I found another local dealer sells the same thing for $110.20 less and no shipping costs, so a huge savings over my local dealer.

A big thing on putting the yakima stuff on your finance is you end up paying more for the accessories, due to increase in interest abd a few other financial implications. It's money wise smater to buy those things out right rather than put them on your finance price.

Is it though? In my example, I'm saying that I want 3k in accessories. I have the cash today to buy them up front. I can either finance a 35k truck, and pay 3k for accessories, or I roll it all into one 38k transaction, put 3k down payment, and then finance the remaining 35k. Now, you can change the numbers to be 8k cash or 40k truck or whatever, but the only part changing is do I spend the cash on the accessories, or do I spend the cash on the down payment and finance the accessories. I don't really see how it makes a difference.

What other financial implications are you referencing? Perhaps you're talking about discounted cash flows and how if you get a good interest rate you can actually walk away better by not putting anything down and financing the entire purchase, accessories included. I know this last sentence sounds kind of snarky, but I am actually interested in what other costs/fees you might be referencing.

The main thing I can think of is that I can probably get it all at REI for basically 10% off (as a member of the co-op), which would be a reason to buy it outright instead of bundling with the purchase of the vehicle.
