Do our trucks NEED high Octane fuel? I was always taught to go with lower octane because it burns easier.

It has been reported many times - our trucks don't NEED high octane fuel, but will run better (less knock) with higher octane. It is recommended by Ford when towing. If you want the absolute best performance from your ecoboost, fill it with premium.

Made a couple of freeway trips (in town) in the last 4 days. Added the Rough country 2.5 and 1.5 hub centric wheel spacers since my last reply. I'm at 17.9 mpg running Exxon 93 octane as of today on 265/70/17 Falken Wildpeak AT3's.

Thank you. After install I had to remove the plastic covers from the crash bars and adjust them forward. Still a very slight rub on inside edge of the tire at full lock backing out of my driveway with maybe a 10 inch elevation change from the last 8 ft to the street surface. No big deal. Definitely worth it in my opinion.

Ues the trucks are designed to run on 87 because plenty of people dont want to run the high oc6due to price but with my experience here in the Rockies these truck do way better with 91 and up. I got better mpg(1-2 at best) and better response. It would be in your best interest to use the high octane fuel.

So on my recent tank, I just somehow gained about 3 mpg...where it was 16-17 mpg, now I'm at 20 mpg or so. My driving habits haven't changed and I've been going to the same places! I wonder if the engine is just really sensitive to different kinds of fuel.

The summer blend fuel is probably out by now and if the weathers getting warmer the truck won't need to idle as much to warm up in the mornings. One thing I've been doing lately is turning off the traction control and I've noticed I gained another 1 - 1 1/2 mpg.

Jeez haha winter blend stops in June!? I mean Michigan is cold but not THAT cold desert boy  the traction control is definitely interesting, I'll give it a try!

Haha well to be fair, I spent Jan-Mar this past year in Phoenix for work, and I was shocked at how cold it got in the morning. It was tough to pack a suitcase for 3 months of clothes to account for those cold frosty mornings and scorching heats in the afternoon!

There's no effing way traction control impacts mpg. You're better off adding stickers to your truck or hanging a rabbit paw from your rear view for good luck.

Mpg threads are worse than oil threads. Much worse.

You okay dude?

Usually, no, traction control would not affect mpg. But who knows how different engine settings affect the calibration in these new trucks. It literally doesn't hurt anybody to give it a shot.

Honestly I'm curious how you guys are getting low fuel economy like that. Im in the Rockies in Colorado and pull STEEP GRADES going to and from work. Before I got a true I was averaging around 22 MPG. After getting my tunes from Livernois I have been able to average around 24 MPG and that includes my lift From Old Man EMU, Bridgestone Dueler Revo 3's and the FX4 skid plates.

If anything I'm wondering if people here are either stomping it at the red lights and/or have agressive mud tires.

Well I get gas at the same 2 places and basically drive the same area. The only thing I've done different a couple months ago was turn off TC and mines gone UP. So either I'm blind or my Fuelly app and my hand calcs are all wrong.
