Guys, as I posted last week after negotiating with various Ford dealers for a month:
  • Dealers are being swamped by people who think Ford is desperate to sell vehicles... The sales people aren't feeling any pressure to discount yet as a result. In fact, they are annoyed with 23yr olds coming in with 450 credit scores wanting 0% interest and 10k off MSRP with no verifiable income....who are looking to buy a mustang..... that's your disconnect. Maybe that will change in June when car sales plummet, but not now.
  • Ford corporate is offering 0% financing but dealers hate it, if you want a dealer to give you max discounts off purchase price and you have excellent credit, sign a loan from them for 3% interest and immediately refinance to lower rate via your own bank or pay the loan off as fast as you can so interest expenses are minimal. Believe me, having a much lower initial balance pays off more in the long run than having perfect interest rate. There is no benefit to paying 0% rate early. Run the numbers yourself.
  • Don't accept anything less than 8k off the ranger lariat trim, and if you are really lucky or dealer is desparate on a vehicle that has been sitting on the lot for a year - you might get 9-10k off.
They may hate the 0% but they are sure advertising the hell out of it. I've been looking at either a 2nd ranger for a 2020 Escape and that's all i'm seeing 0% for 84 mo deals. I think i'm going to wait until summer as well

Hate to tell you.... the ford rate for 830 credit is 3%, not 6%. I have to assume the finance guy lied to you or there is something else unuque to your situation.

Most banks are offering 2.5-2.7% on auto loans to customers with good credit. We might see as low as 1.99% eventually, but the banks are being extra careful about loan quality now.
Well, I got 10k off a base XT 4x4 (32% off MSRP). I paid cash and financed the min ($7,500) at whatever rate they gave me. I didn't care because I'm paying that off as soon as Ford Credit gives me an account number. Sure, maybe they were trying to whack me with the 6%, knowing full well I was paying cash and eeking out another 1500 discount through that program. The fiance guy even asked me if I was going to pay it off within three months - he said the dealership gets penalized. Not sure what that means, but probably they have to eat some of the 1500 discount as Ford doesn't collect enough front-loaded interest to offset the discount.

As for the insinuations that my 830 FICO has in some way "problems" hiding behind it, you guys clearly don't know the credit game. I played it for a long time and there is no hiding your sins.

If anyone would like to talk to me about a purchase, you can private message me. Im the fleet manager, so I can deal quick and easy. Let me know if I can assist. Im located in Chattanooga. 720 Tier 1 customer, just got a 2020 XLT 4x4 Crew Sport 301A with leveling kit in Blue for 34000 OTD on the 72mth 0 down 0 APR, also got the 120 suspended payments, it took about 3 days of phone calls and emails and negotiotions, and 2 walk outs lol, coulda been closer to 30K if I took the 4.9% and rebates, but even still with the interest across the loan term it cost me more money.

Ford has their programs structured so that pretty much whichever you slice it, it comes out about the same. Unless you have cash cash and Finance the 7500min. Then pay off in a month or 2.

So according the spec sheet I got it for basically for about 2k under invoice with the holdback removed.

I could tell the dealership wasn't happy, cause they even had to transport the truck down from a different store as a part of an inventory swap.

I think what really killed me was being in the midwest and the fact Covid didn't whomp us like alot of other states. So they weren't super duper desperate and didn't have alot of 30-45 day or older standing inventory unless you wanted a bleh white XL ext. Cab

720 score was offered 0/72, 1.9 with some rebates or 4.9% all the rebates so idk exactly what Marlowe means, my credit union was also at like 2.49% up to 125% purchase price for options and taxes/fees

Wow, after reading, it makes me wonder how pricing got so low for so many? Don't get me wrong, I'm still happy with my price, but wonder how things got negotiated? 2019 Lariat Sport, 501A, tow and locking diff, for 37216 including destination charge only. List was just under 44000. I walked out of several dealerships, worked them online, but no one is my area would consider going lower tyan the price I received. Is there different pricing for different areas of the U.S.?

In no way am I saying anything negative about anyone or their purchase or comments, but as a sales manager, I can tell you there are so many ways to price a vehicle . There are also special offers in certain areas of the country, called zones and/or regions at Ford, where rebates are different as well as dealer cash that is not always publicized. This is whyyou see differences. The first thing a dealer will ask when pricing is for your zip code to determine where the vehicle will be registered. Depending on the zip code, your rebates will vary.

One thing is for sure; every dealer gets the same window sticker and the same invoice. Cost is the same across the board. If someone gets a deal and its hard to believe, normally its because of some regional discount program to push product.

On other occasions, dealerships WILL LOSE MONEY to sell a vehicle if that vehicle is one that helps them get to a specific volume number for a "bonus" on a certain number of units sold. Normally thats at the end of the month when a dealer can get crazy with their prices. These programs are called "stairstep" programs. HIt a certain number in volume, you get X. Hit t he next plateu and you get XX. and so on....

Maybe that helps with making sense of the commentary here. If you message me, my first question is going to be, " whats your zip code" and once I see that, I may ask for a name and address to see if Ford has sent any special offers.

Ive been selling cars for 18 years at the same dealership. Love my job. One thing I cannot stand is devious sales tactics. I focus on the actual price, actual rebates, and thats that. Ive never had to lie to sell a car. Ive worked hard to justify my pricing and Ive worked hard to know my product. I also have no shame in making some money on a customer. Thats the American Way. Capitalism is what makes the world work. I have refused to sell cars to some when they continue to low ball me. My time has value. My knowledge has value, and the level of service I give my guests has a lot more value than most understand...until they need something.

Beating up a salesperson for the best deal is not always the best way to handle a purchase. Faith in your sales pro means they will take care of you when you need something. Trust in your salesperson comes when you dont have to beat on them for a sale. If they give you a good price, take it and you'll have them in your corner when you need something later on at a dealership.

And in no way am I saying to pay sticker for a vehicle. Your sales Pro should discount the vehicle to keep you coming back year after year. If you do come back, and you do service your vehicle there, your vehicle should last longer, and retain more value to the dealership when you come to trade it back in. The key is to have a sales person you know that is honest and not jumping from lot to lot. Find the veterans that stay at a dealership and have repeat customers. Those are the pro's. They know how to keep a customer and they will treat you as well as you treat them when its time to come together for a purchase, service, or a cup of coffee.

Just my opinion!

Yeah they’ll offer you good rates but you’re gonna take a hit on some rebates, or they’ll sucker you into 0/84 and you pay nearly full MSRP but try and tell you how great of a deal it is haha

I have zero zero complaints at 34000 OTD for the truck ( not including state sales taxes and title ) although ford let me finance the sales tax into the loan at ZERO for the 72Mths.

Now I did buy a 6/60 premier warranty for $1500 cash at close, just to CYA for the life of loan as my choice. ( I kind.of hope the dealer or sales reps made something off this honestly ) .

Anyway that was my experience.....

Is there different pricing for different areas of the U.S.?

Used an emailed tiered bidding structure ending on the last day of the month, in my area I have 8-9 different ford dealers in a 70 mile area across 2 states, so I had them bid me for the truck I wanted. I had a large cash down and the credit either way, so I wanted the best deal.

It was a pain in the butt!

Out of I am guessing 35 phone calls 8 or 12 different " online sales managers or online sales consultants and truecar exclusive bids, 3 dealers all came in close and under the others by a far margin.

I told them each the same thing " I am ford qualified ( already had ford motor credit prequal me ) I am going to sign on 4/30 thats my day off work, here is a screenshot of the best offer I have, can you beat it? Need to know by 7PM 4/29. Thank you, 'your name' "

Anyway thats how I did it, and it was a lot or work, or you can get the " fair " deal that most people get now.... which depending on what you make and your family situation you don't have that extra time to burn. Is fighting over an extra $500-$1000 really worth it to you?

The online sales rep, whom was female btw that got my business was AMAZING! She did everything smoothly and efficiently as she could and shot straight with me the entire time, and I was open and truthful to her from day one.

The dealer that was just as honest and forth coming, what it came down to was the winning dealership was trying to get that stair step goal for their month end bonus, unfortunately they weren't on track for bonus that month so he had bottomed out.

It’s great that you are fairly open and honest but unfortunately the car industry at the Macro level has a poor reputation overall. Is it all justified? That’s subject to interpretation. You bring up capitalism. In a capitalist society those with more money, access and privilege win more times than not.
Back to original topic, the car industry as far as sales goes had done consumers “dirty” for as long as I remember and now they want us to play nice.

All these manufacturers/dealerships could have done all this incentive/ special pricing before. Trying to sprUce it up as a “stimulus” package. Let’s be honest it’s a knee jerk reaction and informed consumers aren’t going to fall for it.

As you said it’s a capitalist society and Americans are going to “cash in” as much as possible. Unfortunately, now you have a vicious circle or ignorance and no one wins.
