Okay I’m
The way they can tell there's a tune on the vehicle is most people make the mistake of taking the tune off right before going into the dealer. That's the big mistake a lot of people make. Now if you leave a tune on and there is a reprogram available for the PCM under a recall and you don't take your tune off and they go to reprogram it your vehicle will not start. That's another thing to be aware of.
I understand this 100% I lost custom tuning file on a Duramax I had due to ECM update. You are correct I just ran back to ask him again and I misunderstood him. he Explained if you have a freak failure not being seen in other Fords.
Ford can request ECM info from Tech which will show ignition counter to be off. However for 99% of people who come in for warranty work it will be a non issue. However if you pop a engine catastrophically you would need to fret. That being said we both run BDX on our F-150s no issue I will be ordering one for Ranger ASAP. We have only had one warranty claim denied here for Tuning was a RS with other mods as well. Popped the head gasket (Ford Covered) but had some other issues Ford would not. I’ll take my chances because auto Start/Stop is awful lol. Why I have you here do you know if the Negative Battery post on the battery operates anything else other than auto start/stop

I honestly do not know. I do agree with the auto start stop being annoying as f*** but all I do is just keep hitting the off button when I start my truck up. Why do I do that you ask? Simple with where I live and where I work I don't have any stop and go traffic to really worry about and therefore I have constant speeds on my fuel mileage has up anyways. What's the time when I travel to my friends in Colorado Springs I get the same idea. No stop and go traffic just straight cruising.

I’ve wanted to tune my fiancé & I’s Ecoboosts but I’m constantly worrying that if I do, what if something goes bad & Ford won’t cover it?

Our Fusion would be the perfect car to tune since it’s the sport model with a twin turbo 2.7L (definitely one of my favorite sleepers), but that warranty worries the hell out of me!
I’d love to tune the Ranger for the power increase but I’m happy to be back in a truck so I’m content... at the moment ?
Hey man I don’t want to give you bad info. See last few post of this Thread. Ford can see if need be if your car has been tuned

Not first hand knowledge, but I was told in the Mustang GT world the ECM logs each start. When you flash the ECM it resets the start counter to 0. So if you flash back to stock right before going in to dealer your start count will be abnormally low and that's a red flag.

I’m running the SCT/BDX tune and I like it. I recently removed the tune and drove the truck around and the difference is noticeable. I re-installed the tune and like the added feel of performance over stock. I’ll take my chances with potential warrantee engine issues. My truck is not an investment, it’s a tool, and an object of my simple pleasure. Anything that happens to it will be repairable. I’m betting on not having any serious issues, which is the experience of most people who tune their engines. Just my thoughts.

Modifying your cars and trucks will always be risky. There's always a chance something goes wrong (whether or not it's a result of the tune), and there's always a chance Ford denies warranty work due to aftermarket parts/tunes. That being said, sometimes, a smile from ear to ear is worth the risk.

I just got my tunes in from 5 Star Tuning, and the difference is unreal. See below.

I've been considering the Burger JB4 just for the warranty issues. Easily removable hardware option that won't leave any electronic fingerprints in the PCM and fully mobile across VIN #'s.

Downside is total cost. You've got to spend extra $$ to enable the more aggressive tunes in the JB4. With some available Ford Pass points, the Ford tune with warranty starts to get pretty interesting.

JB4 for Ranger not out yet is it?
If out and working, even base should be a great option.

I'd love to, but cannot get past the General Error - 110B8 issue with the Bully Dog BDX tuner.

@Terry@BMS Does any of the info mentioned in the PDF above show up with the JB4, mainly "key cycles" ?

To my understanding with the JB4 it is a piggyback unit(aka liar) that tricks the pcm/ecm for more power. In my opinion that isnt the best way to go because that will most likely cause a bigger chance of failure compared to a proper tune from a reputable company. I myself ordered the Ford Performance power pack. Why did I chose that? Well I figured it will provide SAFE RELIABLE POWER when towing or just having fun. Also the ProCal4 has tools from the Factory Scan Tool that other tuners and most scan tools dont have. For example besides check for DTC's I can perform the KOEO and KOER tests. I can also clear KAM(keep alive memorie) and reset missfire profile if I had to perform a repair from a missfire. With all that is is well worth the money.

Nope, that's one on the advantages to the JB4. No electronic fingerprints at all. Physically remove the device (3 plugs) and there's no trace.

Additional advantages -- OEM Ford engine protection strategies are left in place while offering similar or better gains at half the cost of the Roush and Ford Performance options.

Yes, set the JB4 to one of its more aggressive performance options and risks increase.

Blow the engine, leave the JB4 in place and its unlikely the Ford tech won't notice and recommend voiding the warranty.

Ultimately, the 15 - 20 hp gain from Roush or FPP is both darned expensive and pretty anemic , but still the right path for some.
