XLT vs Lariat - differences

I actually prefer the lariat cluster. More configurable for extra info. I ignore the XLT 302A, adds a bunch of lariat features without the best lariat perks for me lol. And I like oem more than the alphas, mishi, etc, anyway The halogens are unusable to me so they'd have to go. Really wish we could get LEDs and push button start in the XLT.

I went with the Lariat because I wanted all the features available with it and with the 501 Technology Package without having to do a lot of aftermarket changes.

I had heard some people on these forums say that the halogen wiring might not support LED headlamps. Anyone know more?

Interesting, i would think the wiring between the two would be the exact same. Seems a lot of extra manufacturer work to make a slight change like that. Usually LED draws less amperage than halogen, so I would think LED bulbs would be just fine.

The only place an LED won't be fine is the front turn signals. You'll have the fast blink in the dash. It'll think you have a bulb out.

I don't think that's accurate. Mine are not heated mirrors, and I have XLT 302A. I think others on the forums have said the same thing, but could be wrong. Maybe it might have been at some point, but changed?

EDIT: Ah -- it seems it was added for 2022? Odd, as they usually REMOVE features as years go on

Hey all - New here. I posted an introductory post but was referred to this forum from another place when asking Ranger questions. So glad because theres a bunch of great info here! For the last 6 months I have been debating a new truck. A 90 Ranger was my first vehicle - sure was a great truck. Anywhoo, I am trying to better understand the true differences between XLT and Lariat. Every time I have been to a dealer (only 2 within an hours drive) they never have both available to look at side by side. Only one or the other. Not surprisingly no sales person was able to answer my 'what are the differences' question.

So below I have outlined the differences that I know of based on Ford, pics, and various reviews. These are things that are on the Lariat, and not on the XLT (both fully optioned). If there is anything else - please by all means let me know. It's only about a 5K difference between the two so having a tough time deciding which way to go....
Lariat things

• LED lights
• Darker plastics interior (not the shiny silver trim)
• Leather seats (I do not like leather, would swap for fabric in the future)
• rain sensing wipers
• B&O Sound system
• dual productivity screens in instrument cluster

All others aside - what pro/con does the lariat version instrument cluster offer?

Hey, Chad, welcome to the forum. My only experience is with the 2019 Lariat, and some things may have changed since then (probably for the worse), but for me the decisive differences are the B&O sound (which you listed) and the fob that locks and unlocks doors, starts the truck from a distance, etc. For me, the sound system alone is worth moving up to the Lariat, and the fob is a huge convenience, especially in bad weather. So, my advice is, if the budget permits (or the wife allows), do it!

Anyone with a crew cab wish they went with a super? Or vic versa? I am leaning to a super for more bed space. Single dude here with no kids. Maybe a dog in the near future.

We got the supercrew, which basically means that we traded bed space for cabin space in the rear. We do not regret making that decision, as we like to keep a lot of sporting goods, changes of clothes, a cooler, etc. in the back of the cabin (with the seat up, which gives you some more space); and we do not haul so much stuff that we would need the six-foot bed. Plus, if I remember correctly, and this may have changed, but I think that you need to get the supercrew in order to get the B&O sound, which we love.

Everyone is different, but I love my 18” wheels on my Ranger! Looks great to me!

When it's sitting like that, way out in the middle of a nice color matching field, it's almost impossible to tell it's parked crooked.? Nice.

I was a new Ford owner after so many years toiling for GM and ordering their products. I was buying from dealer stock and didn't realize I could get some of the features from the Lariat in an XLT with options for tech package if I ordered it and the salesperson didn't mention it for some reason, COVID being the most likely culprit. The rear seats in the crew look like they were designed with human occupancy in mind is, not so much in the SCAB. The only thing I don't really like is the Lariat cluster, and from reading this post I have learned that can be swapped out for an XLT. Good luck with your decision!!

I always get the xlt 302 package, whether it's F-150 or Ranger. I don't care for leather seats, don't need the push button start. I prefer the extended cab and got the 18 inch wheels extra

A minor detail perhaps, but I haven't seen it mentioned. I think the Lariat trucks also have a soft leather or leather-esque dash pad and the XLT & lower trims have a harder plastic dash pad.

XLT 302A package definitely does NOT include heated mirrors. A huge mistake on Ford's part in my opinion.
