I’ve been happy with the Anderson WDH with integrated sway control. It’s light so it doesn’t eat up payload/hitch capacity, no friction bars to mess around with, easy to use. We pull a 20’ GeoPro, max. weight 4000lbs, and have never felt like the trailer was in control of things.
Has anyone here needed to use the Protect extended warranty on their Ranger? If so, how did it go?
I’m researching the different Protect plans and wondering if I really need one. My 3/36 will be up in July so I need to decide. The truck has been trouble free so far and I don’t see a lot of...
So I'm thinking about an extended warranty and checked into Granger Ford's deal for Ford Protect. Seems pretty good. I also checked with Endurance because they get good ratings. The price difference for pretty much the same coverage is huge: $1900 from Granger vs over $5000 from Endurance.

I keep reading that the LIFePO4 batteries might try to draw too much from the alternator if they are at a low charge state. So I'm really confused about whether I need to worry about this or not.
I want to disable the 12v charge line to my trailer in order to protect my alternator. I have plenty of solar and a converter so I don't really need the charge from the truck, nor do I want to spend MORE money on a DC-DC charger. I've looked through the fuse diagrams and don't see anything that...
Thanks for your reply but, my concern is not charging the batteries, my concern is if the truck's alternator can be be damaged by the lithium draw through the 7 pin connector.
So I am still a little unclear about this (sorry, I can be a little slow at times). If I have a trailer with 380 watts of solar, a lithium compatible charge controller, and 200ah of LiFePO4 batteries with battery management, can I skip the dc-dc charger without putting my stock alternator at risk?
This is an old thread I know, but I have a question that I didn't see an answer to. Can the alternator be damaged by charging a LiFePO4 battery without a DC-DC charger while driving? I thought I had read somewhere that the battery would try and pull more power than the alternator can provide...
OK, good. Thank you. Let me rephrase my question. If the trailer is hooked up to the truck, and the truck is shut off, does the trailer still draw power from the truck battery?
Sorry if this has been asked and answered somewhere, but I couldn't find the answer.
So, when the truck is shut off is power to the trailer also shut off?
Thanks for the replies. I think a little smaller trailer is in our future at this point. I go back and forth about the 1685 because I see a lot of people towing similar TT's, but they probably are a lot more experienced than I am, which is to say, I have no towing experience.

I just installed the Ford kit, and it was kind of a pain, but I think it is probably worth it for the above reasons given, but also I wonder if not using the the Ford version (or any version the activates the EBS) might compromise any warranty issues or insurance coverage.
