Again, no need for the FX4 package if the rear locker is the only reason you want that package.

FX4 Package: $1,295
Rear Locker (can add to any Ranger): $420
Given that is about the cost of a rear tail light, I would say the FX4 package is a good deal if you want more than just the locker.

Not trying to be a dick, just curious why someone would pay more for this despite, it seems, a lot of FX4 owners on here immediately paying $500-2000 to swap out/upgrade the suspension.
I am planning lots of overlanding when I get too old to work, so I got the Fx4Package ($1300 these days from Ford) for the skid and bash plates (heavier ones from ARB $700+), locking rear diff (a $420 Ford option w/o Fx4, $700+ from Yukon), front tow hooks ($100 Aftermarket), trail control (lo speed cruise control, no idea how a person could price that aftermarket). All that is still on the truck. I think I came out ahead on costs, plus no hassle for installs.

I have installed several other aftermarket mods.
Flowmaster FlowX Cat Back Exhaust -Eases exhaust flow from the catalytic converter to exit. was $490 from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YDYTYNQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and...
Vivid 4" x 50' Fiberglass Heat Wrap (when the exhaust expands to fill the larger 3" pipe it will cool and tend to stall. The wrap keeps the gas hot and moving) was $16 from amazon - they no longer sell this exact product here is an equivalent $35 https://www.amazon.com/JC-Performan...glass+exhaust+wrap,automotive,146&sr=1-3&th=1 and...
POR-15 High Temperature Paint - Aluminum to protect the wrap from fluffing off was $50 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XKTV4HG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and...
I did a muffler delete as the truck seemed too quiet after the wrap (below) (stainless pipe about $20 from https://expperformancetucson.com/)
(Installed FlowX exhaust, Wrap, muffler delete pipe, and paint myself, moderate complexity. https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/thre...-back-exhaust-system-install-with-mods.12307/ The truck purrs like panther now.

Injen PF9071WB Cold Air Intake To ungag the intake. was $290 from cspracing https://injen.com/i-30498853?q=PF9071WB (Installed Myself, easy)

Engine Cover was $ 60 from CarId https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/2nd-most-controversial-mod.18422/page-4#post-384393 (Installed Myself, easy. Quiets engine noise a bit, looks much prettier than the naked engine top)

Westin HDX Winch Mount + Grill Guard https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/thre...57-93985-install-on-xlt-fx4-super-crew.11037/ (Installed Myself, moderate complexity)

Smittybilt XRC GEN3 9.5K Comp Series Synthetic Cable Winch https://www.4wheelparts.com/p/smitt...nch-with-synthetic-cable-98695/_/R-DSBP-98695 (Installed Myself, moderate complexity)

BDS 3.5" UCA Lift kit https://bds-suspension.com/product?ma=3&mo=25&ty=1&yr=2019-2021 (paid Desert Rat $725, including sway bar delete to improve suspension articulation. Did not take it back for the included align promptly and when I called them, the guy chastised me and wanted to charge me $200 instead of doing it as promised part of install, so I had it aligned by much closer by Big-O, super nice guys!)

BDS Crashbar / Intrusion Beams https://www.stage3motorsports.com/123614-19-22-ranger-bds-intrusion-beams.html (Installed myself, PITA as the truck seems built around the original crashbars )

XFX 305 Flow Formed 17 x 10 w +12 mm Offset Wheels
https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/new-wheels.21004/page-3#post-458945
Rim hole plugs https://www.ebay.com/itm/303542912856 (had to get rim hole pugs because the wheels have 2 holes each for valves) and ...
TOYO Open Country R/T 295/70 R17 tires https://www.toyotires.com/product/open-country-rt/
(Tires, wheels, hole plugs installed, balanced by Local shop https://www.embassytire.com/. Great guys!)

I am considering swapping out the front coilovers with aftermarket ones to allow for even more suspension travel. External reservoir ones have to be rebuilt every 10k miles which I am very much not ever going to do, so still looking.

The only swapouts specific to Fx4 were Upper Control Arms, Rear Shocks, Rear Shackles, and wheels. There was no "Tremor" when I got my truck. I suspect my present build is better in some ways. I am super happy with the build, and the Fx4 gave me a great head start on it. I hope I will still have the truck, running when I die in 20 or 30 years.

Hows your Injen PF9071WB Cold Air Intake holding up? I've had mine on about a month. Does yours also have a noticible suction noise when throttling it? Just wanted to check in to see if its just mine.

Yeah, you don't want beadlock on anything with a license plate. They're heavy, difficult to balance, and take a ton of maintenance.

Racing and/or crawling are not adequate stand ins for real world use. You'd be decreasing performance and useabilty in 99 percent of circumstances.
I do not disagree with you here, but my definition was a "true Ranger-based off-road beast" which to me means a no-compromise, dedicated off-road vehicle or one that sees very limited use on pavement. One can argue that there are much better platforms to build one of these on, and I would not disagree with you there either.

the other features is why... yes the suspension does suck its to damn soft and bouncy but we get all the offroad goodies that the other trim models do not get the only option the other trim models can have is to option a locker meanwhile we get the terrain mode and a few other small things that just make it more worth while. on top of that for me i wanted a tremor but nobody could find me one so i got a fx4 and basically built a tremor
That was it for me too. I wanted a Tremor but I wanted a SCab more. I ordered the FX4 and bought the Tremor suspension with my Ford Pass Reward points that I had accumulated over the years. Well worth it I think.

you do realize they make stronger leafs for trucks so they can support the weight better right? had a set of old man emu dakar hds on my old tacoma they did great for supporting weight when i had a trailer and such with all my armor and other gear i had back then. deaver and old man emu make hd leafs for the ranger
may "support it better" but it will not increase the physical payload limit

If I could get the Ranger how I wanted it then:
SCAB but with 170° open rear doors instead of just 90°
rear seat delete
Tremor package
tech package 302A instead of just 301

Based on this thread I just bought and installed the Eibach Pro Truck rear shocks on my FX4, and holy crap, it's night and day better. I don't think you can spend a better $250, do it now if you haven't.

But yeah, as others have said the trail modes, skid plates, and trail control made it worthwhile for me. It is also a really nice decal.

Those shocks are no joke! I love how they made my truck feel!

The only thing I'd like off the fx4 package is the off road skid plate. Everything else, including the terrain modes, seem pointless to me.
I felt the same way about the terrain modes until I actually tried them out in their designated terrains. The throttle response in mud/ruts mode is amazing!

Diff lock is invaluable for off road driving.
