I have always had good luck with f150s but I hated the gas mileage. When I saw the stats for the Ranger I just had to have it.. That said I really did not get said mileage. I do however love the look But am suffering the comfort versus the F150.

If I had to pick one I would go for the mileage and even though I am only getting 17 around town, it is better than 12MPG that my F150 got.
What is word is that the 2018 mustang gt that I traded got better mileage on the highway. Go figure.

Going through the same thing. Looking to replace our Hyundai Santa Fe sport with a truck. Mostly for hauling; and a lot of DIY projects next few years.

We are torn and have narrowed it down.

Tacoma: don't like seating/comfort. Too cramped feeling. Not much offroading planned so we don't care.

Frontier: old design; gas guzzler; more work truck vibe than a daily-driver.

Colorado: I like it -- esp how it drives/handles. Don't trust Chevy reliability, however. The V6 LT is something between the ridgeline and Ranger in terms of design, handling and drive. Interior is dated. But I feel the truck is capable and well thought out. Too bulky for the wife and she didn't like the lack of safety and luxury features.

Ridgeline: We like it. Nagged that it isn't a 'real' truck. Feel we might regret buying it if we did. However, it is one of the most well thought out design -- from the bed to the cargo area in the backseat. The v6 is nice. Let's not mention luxury and safety features. Almost engineered to perfection for most truck driver 'needs.'

Ranger: We like the looks. The drive is nimble and the engine is sporty even though it's a turbo 4-banger. The price is ridiculous. However, given the numerous rebates and incentives -- it has come back to earth somewhat. Feels like an unfinished product though. These are small but they add up: no tailgate dampening. No default in-bed liner. No bumper step for the bed. Backseat is horrid. C'mon, miniscule underseat storage; back rest does no lay flat; and not 60/40. Is it a great engineering feat to have a usable 60/40 folding backseat??

So we are down to the Ridgeline or Ranger. I want to get the Ranger but it feels incomplete and poorly thought out. That leaves the Ridgeline, but we aren't crazy on how it looks and feel we'll be forever nagged that it isn't a real truck. And resale down the road --- we feel the Ranger will be more attractive to a larger demographic than the Ridgeline would.

It is almost down to a coin toss at this point. Sigh.

I've always owned and been very happy with Ford's. My first truck was a 2001 Ranger SuperCab 4x4 with the 4.0L. I bought it used in 2005 and I absolutely loved that truck. Despite my best efforts of obsessively keeping it cleaned and waxed rust was starting to get the best of it. I went truck shopping in 2010 and bought an F-150. I didn't NEED a half-ton truck, but I really liked the F-150 and always wanted one. I would have got another Ranger but I was very disappointed in Ford for neglecting the Ranger and not updating it. The F-150 did not disappoint, and I really enjoyed it. Fast forward to 2017. I got a new job with a much longer commute so I cheaped out and traded it in on a 2016 Focus with a 5-speed. I liked the Focus, but I missed having a truck. When Ford announced the Ranger was coming back, I figured as long as it wasn't disappointing and got decent gas mileage, I'm in. Coincidentally, they revealed the design a day after my birthday. I was sold and I love my new truck!

Sounds like you should get a ridgeline.

So forget about what to call it and just get the VEHICLE that fits you best. You'll get some good-natured ribbing about it not being a truck (fair warning, some of it will come from me), but the alternative is that you'll spend a bunch of money on a vehicle that doesn't adequately fit your wants/needs simply to appease other people.

I was looking at Rangers at dealership and wife goes over to the SUVs. Salesman comes over and says what are you looking for and I says something that fits her butt. No not wide, height. LOL She wants to just slip in and out easy. You need to go and see which vehicle fits your butt. Forget about what others or down the road might happen, but I doubt that Ridgelines will lose value more than any other.

I thought it was mostly tacoma owners that start planning to get rid of their trucks before they even buy them

Hey now! I've only ever voluntarily let go of one Toyota 4x4, and that was just to upgrade from the I4 to the V6! Wife and I are keeping our current Tacoma til the engine don't start or the frame falls of, whichever comes first! Granted, it's the 4.0 V6, so it'll probably be when the frame falls off...

Only time will tell with the Ranger, I have pretty high expectations, but we can't truly know how these trucks will be in the long run.

All I know is that Tacoma owners talk about resale value more than anyone else I've heard. I'll accept that there are exceptions.

Actually, that insane resale value is one of the reasons I'm getting a Ranger! I was willing to settle for a Gen 2, even though I wanted the power and styling of the Ranger. After tons of looking at $27-$30K used trucks (50k+ miles) my wife told me to buy a Ranger. Said it was worth the extra $5K.

Sorry boys, I'm keeping her!

I had a similar feeling looking at used trucks--for that much money I might as well get exactly what I want rather than buying someone else's problems! I don't generally get rid of a vehicle until it's dead (I really wish the other drivers all had automated braking), so over time the initial cost becomes a distant memory.

I was looking to upgrade from my 99 Tacoma 2WD super cab V6 and was very excited with the Ranger. I test drove one then had a dealer find me a 4WD Ranger Iconic Silver Lariat. It's now almost 2 years later and I love Lucille more and more daily!!!!! I still have the Taco as it fits in my garage which the Ranger won't.

It looks really great, seats are comfortable for long trips, and it gets up and goes loaded or not. For me the best pickup for my needs. Hec I could have bought anything truthfully. I wanted the Ranger over just about everything else. Looks even sweeter with a bit of a lift up front.
