Glad you are OK and that the crash was not worse! Smart move to wear a helmet. Did any part of your helmet make contact with anything when you crashed? Any concussions?

I always wear a helmet when cycling because of head trama that can occur. For one reason, motorists have a tendency to disregard cyclists and you have to ride defensively. A friend of mine hit a bike and fortunately the rider recovered but the friend was in litigation for 5 years.

Yes, scuff on the helmets left forehead, cut and bloodied left ear ear (from the speaker?), goggle foam covered in blood from impact around left eye and nose bridge. Face is swollen on left side this morning.

ER said it is a concussion if you lose consciousness but the only memory loss I have is the fall itself and skiing down to the truck. Pain in upper back, chest and arms this morning is a 10! Right arm rotator cuff hurts like hell.

Drove it to Brundage for skiing but knocked myself out so when I got back to cabin my wife had to drive me to ER. 50 mph crashes HURT! Nothing broken but sore as hell and face is bloodied up even with a helmet on. Goggles left an implant on left side of face.

Holy Crap Steve - glad you’re on the mend and not in worse shape. It sounds like you’re gonna hurt for a while. Tough break with the concussion - and, yes, it’s definitely a concussion - even if it isn’t, it’s definitely a concussion. I recommend a follow-up with your GP after a few more days. Seriously, please watch it closely.

Thanks Duke, follow-up scheduled. Might have to do further investigation of right shoulder as CT doesn't show soft tissue damage and I can't lift the arm without great pain.

That was a serious collision! Any scratches on or damage to the helmet? Take care of your condition and please follow up as your health care providers recommend.

Ugh! Shoulders have way too many components and half the stuff is hidden by other stuff. I hope things are just strained and that nothing’s torn up.

Glad to hear you have a follow-up scheduled. I’ve had more than my share but never did the follow-ups or any of the rehab - scary when I think of it now. Mend well and follow your doctor’s orders, especially your at-home “doctor”.

I put gas in the Ranger last night, multiple people came up talking about the Ranger, one was looking at it and saying how good it looked and that he hadn't seen the Thunder edition before. The other was driving an old Fleet spec 2007 Ranger and was saying mine is an F-150, not a Ranger. He was pretty insistent, or I would I told him it's just returning to its roots. Glad you're OK and didn't end up like Sonny Bono ?

I've had a couple shoulder issues and you may need to get an MRI to be sure you didn't tear something.

Make sure you keep moving things as much as you can so you keep your range of motion.

I ended up with a frozen shoulder, which required surgery, on the right side, and have a tear in the left that I'm still working through.

And YES, both times, it hurt like hell and took a long time to heal. The age hasn't helped either.

Remember, heat and or ice packs are your friend. ? A recliner to kick back in and or sleep in is a plus as well. ?

Good luck and try to push through the pain as much as you can.

As you likely know, the best fall arrest systems have shock absorber lanyards. Unfortunately, most shock absorbers kick in after 6 ft or so, then decelerate for another 6 ft and the 5-6 ft user should stop with a 3 ft safety margin - good for 19-20 ft heights with the lanyard fastened overhead of the user.

For my second floor use case, I’d bounce before the system worked as it should. ? ?

I use a 6 ft tree saver strap from my Ranger’s recovery gear as my safety lanyard - the anchors are up to the task and I’ve placed one 4 ft from the edge of the deck - allows me to work close to the edge with confidence - and two anchors mounted to support columns about 11 ft off the ground for working on ladders. I tested it by stepping down the ladder until the tether was taking my full weight, stepped off the ladder, swung for a bit while a foot off the ground, and bounced around like a madman. Everything worked as it should - the boys were happy it was a climbing harness and not a fall arrest rig - one is built for comfort - the other to satisfy minimum OSHA requirements.

A static lanyard will stop abruptly (not the best) and do some neck and back damage but I would fall a very limited distance before being stopped. Besides, all the clamouring and grabbing at whatever I could get my hands on would likely slow me down a bit, no? . ? ? ?
