Dave if you ever get over to Cayonlands National Park you need to do the White Rim Trail. Done that many years ago in our camping youth.
Larry, We're going there just not sure which day yet, trying for Thursday. There's so much to do here now I wished I had more time but the good thing is we're not really to far away to make another trip.

I think the first road trip once we retire will be to Houston to visit our daughter and two granddaughter. The only nice thing is we can justify the gas prices and just pay them a lot of people can’t afford to go to work. I feel very fortunate that the fuel is just a big inconvenience. I’m thinking by the time you guys get home you’ll wish you were back on the road.
Sounds like a nice trip Rick. We're fortunate too that the gas prices didn't stop us from our trip, I don't like seeing $81.00 per fill up but it is what it is right now.

We're not even home and I already want to keep traveling. lol Especially knowing Duke is partying it up with half of ASU at my house.? I don't think I even have a house to go home to now. :frown:

What!!! No Slick Rock pics??? You definitely do some of the milder routes. Annie may have to peek out of the window to keep on the trail as you peak the rocks.. Fun stuff!!
Dave,
It can be a serious pucker factor but fun as all get out. It’s a state park so yeah your national pass doesn’t work. Don’t let the name fool you. It was derived from old wagon wheel days, rubber works great there. IMHO it’s worth it since you’re already there. I still love the NPs there too.

The entire White Rim Trail is about 100 miles long and quite technical in places. Figure 2 - 3 days. Definitely would not drive it alone,

Also make sure you know what’s on the other side of the blind drop offs on what may seem to be a road. Almost went off a 1500 foot cliff at La Salle that wasn’t marked.. Have fun and be diligently safe!!!

The house is still standing and the kids from ASU seem to be having a blast!

Oh yeah, we’re running low on a few things - on your way back, can you pick up a few bags of ice and some chips?

When we left the hotel this morning I was trying to decide whether to go to Mt Evans (highest drivable peak in the country) or to Leadville. Mark had called and said definitely go to Mt Evans as we'll enjoy that and it's really a sight to see and he wasn't kidding! It's 14,260' up and the road there is very narrow with long drop offs and no guardrails. Annie wouldn't even look out the window most of the way up. lol The views were spectacular and while it was cold (43 degrees) it really was a sight to see if you're ever close by.

Original structure was demolished by a propane explosion. How would you like to be the driver bringing that delivery truckload up to that height on those roads! :whew:

No thanks! I was telling Annie whoever brought all the materials up to the top to build the observatory had to be crazy. lol I'm sure the road was blocked off from passenger vehicles but there's several 90 degree corners with nothing but a long drop-off (no guardrails anywhere) and it's a long way down. Plus you can get altitude sickness and that's no time to become dizzy.

Today we're headed to Dead Horse Point State Park. I've never heard of it but everyone we talked to last night suggested going there. They say the views are awesome and it's a must see while here. If we have time it looks like there's an off road trail nearby (Gemini Bridges) that takes you out to an arch that you can walk across. I know Annie won't be doing it. lol

When we went you had to sign in &let them know how long you were going to be on it. If you don't sign out they know to come looking for you.?
