They have a Fossil Discovery Trail so we decided to check it out. The trail wasn't to bad for Annie's knee but still a little tough going downhill for her. The bummer was we didn't see any fossils but I guess there there somewhere if you know what to look for. ?‍♂ It was still a good walk to get her to stretch out her knee a bit but the upper part and inside are still sore. The good news it was her idea to walk this so I'm off the hook if she's in pain tomorrow.:whew:

It's tough to see but there's a set of stairs against the rock wall we climbed only to find/see nothing.

Glad you both are enjoying them Rick. I'll tell you I was concerned about the higher gas prices (and still am) but the sights we're seeing and the memories are well worth it. I'll admit there are times I'm tired from lack of sleep and driving but once we get to our next stop all that goes away. I'll probably sleep for a week once I'm back home. lol I hope you and your wife get to do a road trip once you retire, it's really a fun time!

Thanks Tracy. I'll be honest I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did because I've been to the Field Museum in Chicago and it's so big you almost need two days to see everything. I'm really glad we went and it was really fun and interesting to see the actual sight they were on.

We're head down to Moab. UT this morning. I planned this route so we would get acclimated to the heat slowly on our way back to AZ. The weather has been fantastic throughout our whole trip with a few rain storms at night and only one day (the day we were out with mark ) that was a partial washout. It's going to be tough as it's 45 degrees right now in Rangely, Co but I will admit this cool weather has been a nice change from our average morning temps in AZ which average in the 80's now.

I did get lucky last night with the timed entry passes for Arches NP. They open up another block of them at 6pm the night before and I got one for the 12:00-1:00pm slot today. I'm not sure how or why (I checked months ago) but they also had slots open for early morning Tuesday so I got one for 8:00-9:00am. I figured today we'll do the scenic drive and tomorrow we'll try and some shorter hikes around the arches. I really want to hike up to Delicate Arch as I hear it's a must see. Hopefully it's not to difficult a trail with Annie's knee but she is walking much better now, she just doesn't have full movement and still some pain when taking steps.

Here's what Delicate Arch looks like for those who've never seen it. Can't wait to see it in person.

We arrived in Moab around 11:00 and they let us check in early which was great. Dumped our stuff into the room and headed down the street to Arches NP which is a 5 minute drive from the hotel. Even with a timed entry pass you still have a long line to get in and it took a good 35 minutes. We ended up doing half the park today as we have another pass for 8:00am on Wednesday and didn't want to overdo it in the su today. As bad as I wanted to see Delicate Arch it was towards the end so it'll have to wait a little longer.

The views and arches are really amazing up close and you can't grasp the size of these until you're standing right by them.

The next lookout was called Balanced Rock for obvious reasons.

Dave,

You’ll love the difference in scale between where you walk into the area to view Delicate Arch and where can stand up against it. Mother Nature’s optical illusion at its finest. The walking trails in the park are absolutely fantastic - enjoy!

This was the last one we did today called the windows. The arches are really cool and once you get closer you can see the North and South windows together.

This is North Window.
IMG_6710.jpg

In the picture above you can see to the right where you can climb up to the top. These are from up there laying down looking up at the arch.

IMG_6720.jpg

Directly behind North and South Window is Turret Arch. From here you can see both Arches.

If you climb to the top of Turret Arch you can just see North and South Windows. Looks like a pair of eyes staring back at you.

Both North and South Window. To the left is North and to the right is South.
