Hello. I have 2019 ranger. Is it really necessary to warm up engine until rpm goes to 1? Most of the time if i start the engine then shift to R without waiting for rpm go to 1, then there will be a loud shake. I feel like it breaks transmission?

Assuming you have an XLT or lariat, use the remote start if you have to. It can get the heater or the AC going to begin with and we'll start to warm up the engine and transmission ever so slightly. This will help out when you're on the way to the truck and go to start it. Just be aware of the remote start doesn't affect your overall MPG for that tank

I don't warm it up, but I do let it idle for like 30 seconds before I take off usually. The trans fluid doesn't like to be cold - it doesn't take a lot, but a few seconds of warming up helps with the cold performance of the transmission, IMO.

I always let the truck warm up for a few minutes before driving. Gives all the fluids a chance to start circulating. Thats what I was taught in the mechanic class I took in college years ago. Now it’s just become a habit.

I always allow the engine to go through its warm up process before I roll out. It's not a problem because I spend that time adjust my seat belt, radio station, UI, keys, drink, etc... The truck is fully warmed up by the time I'm finished F'ing around.

I also drive slow slow for the 1st mile to give all the juices flowing through the transmission a chance to warm up.

I’m habitually early when I go anywhere, so I take the time to let the truck go through its routine and drop the idle to that 1100 rpm range. I figure the engineers built that startup routine in for a reason and it just seems like it's easier on the truck to start driving after the RPM’s and fan have slowed down.

If you want to avoid the clunk after a cold start, first shift to Neutral. The ECU will take this as a hint that is if getting ready to engage a gear and drop the idle down.

Better to warm up a little...30-60 seconds. It is a turbo and give the engine a chance to get oil pressure up...it is a turbo. Also after out for a drive, keep engine idling for a bit...15 to 30 seconds. This is my SOP on all vehicles...Turbo and non turbo. My first turbo (1980 Mercury Capri Turbo HO) was never a problem doing this. Had a mechanic who knew about Turbos (normal, sports, and race cars with turbos). No issues in 45 years of turbos (12) and 50+ years of other vehicles.

what scares me about not warming it up is having a Turbo in the winter, I always idle for a Min. even in the Summer to get the oil up to it....

I usually drive pretty mellow for the first couple minutes as well.

I always wait until it idles down before driving - I've done this from day 1. It definitely can't hurt, especially with the turbo. Personal preference I suppose.

I wait about 30 seconds before taking off to let the oil pressure come up. I also shift to neutral for a second before going into drive.

I start it and wait for sync to come alive, then I go.
