"True North" Build

I nicknamed my truck "True North" - GM now has a True North edition Sierra in Canada - crap.

  • Change the name immediately

  • Hang my head in shame and keep the name

  • Keep the name and hope no one notices

  • Install a tailgate damper because everything's ruined now anyway

Putting in aftermarket crash bars looks like it’s a lot of work .

Thanks Darin,

I managed to avoid rubbing on my crash bars by loosening them and pushing them out of the way (there’s about a 1/4” of movement). They are very close to rubbing. 1/2” clearance on the fronts, 1/4” on driver side rear, 1/8” on the passenger side. too close for my liking.

I just ordered the ReadyLIFT Intrusion Beam kit and will install it when it’s warmer out. It’s a bit of work, but I’m down for it. Pocket flares and factory fender trim have to come off to squeeze the rear bars out. The bumper cover needs to be loosened to remove the front bars. I think I’ll remove it completely and fabricate a lower grille for the bottom opening from my old factory grill. Two birds - one stone.

I would just remove the beams. When I had my first 5g I had 265/70 with absolutely no issues. Now I have my second 5g stock height and wheels with the same tires as OP and just removed the crash beams with no rubbing unless compressed at full lock. I just loosened the bumper and took the fronts out. Rears are still in

11:00 am - well, the Bushwacker Bolt-on Style Pocket Fender Flares were a lot easier to install than I thought they would be. Should keep the mud and stones away from the paint!
You have to drill to install these, right?
I'm looking for something easily removable so I don't damage my resale value.

No drilling but you’ll need a Phillips screwdriver, and a couple of Torx tools.

Everything installs into the existing fender trim holes. It’s also handy to have a proper trim removal tool to get out the odd plastic pin that doesn’t unscrew properly. Bushwacker’s installation guide is very good.

The toughest part is putting on the long rubber gaskets. PITA but if you take your time, it helps.

Lol. My wife says the same thing every time a Ranger mod shows up. "What is it this time...?" Lol.
