long story short, the truck has never locked in any form, but the alarm will go off when a doors are opened. Currently in shop.

purchased new. When I was looking at it before I bought it I was inside with the doors closed and pressed the lock button and nothing happened. The light did not illuminate on the button. I thought nothing of it. Purchased, took home, and after I locked it from the key fob (horn honks and lights flash) my fiancé opens the passenger door, it’s unlocked and the alarm goes off. I mess around with it and 3 non driver doors cause the alarm to go off. The driver gives you some time to put the key in and start it due to the proximity key (not lariat push start). I still thought I had to be doing something wrong, and assume walking away with the key fob legitimately locked It. 800 miles in and I had to go go to the dealership due to my extended warranty not showing up in the app. The solution to that was the manager didn’t submit it… but anyway I asked for them to show me how to lock the truck. They laughed and came out. Then they were dumbfounded. They have never seen the issue. They also incorrectly said it was not a proximity key. So I went to the service department. They have never seen this before either. They initially blame “after market parts” and point out my light bar. I unplug it from the battery and show the truck still does not lock. After some waiting then finally getting a dealer provided rental, they tell me they believe the issue is caused by only the drivers door latch. Part ordered and will arrive Monday. Still in rental.
I’ve had two vehicles from mopar that were lemons previously. I sewed fca and won. My states law says that a dealership has 4 chances to fix an issue, and it may not take longer than 30 days. This is attempt one.

Wow, your quick on the gun! I lost my brakes, they fixed, all good.
I might be wrong but I think they'll fix your truck.

How long have you had the truck? What are your mods?

Dealers need to get the ****off this "aftermarket caused this" excuse.
Hi Jake,

Not going to happen....Convenient easy excuse, but in their defense, the dealer sees very shoddy installs by owners all the time. In my time at Ford, I saw so much poor installation of aftermarket junk that I cannot remember it all...some real head scratchers on this front...

best,
Phil

I mean I guess I can't argue there. I don't wrench for a living, but I've seen a lot of shoddy stuff myself.

But it seems as of late, a dealership won't even really look at a problem before condemning aftermarket stuff.

They also incorrectly said it was not a proximity key.
The XLT key does not provide access without either hitting a button or inserting the key.

"Proximity" key is not even a term really used by Ford. They use the term Intelligent Access, your XLT is NOT equipped with intelligent access.

I've bought many new vehicles. I've never once got a lemon. Seems to me that somebody who's gotten 2, or 3 now, either has horrible luck, or is an unreasonable customer.

Calm down, it'll get straightened out.

^^^^^^ X2...
If thats the only glitch you've come across, get it fixed and move on.
It almost sounds like your looking for some excuse to get rid of your new Ranger....lock problem and your already talking about "lemon laws".

I have had the truck for 20 days. Less than 800 miles. Only mod is a single Led bar wired directly to the battery.
Is it wired with a dealer-installed anything ("alarm", remote start, dealership theft prevention, LoJack, etc.)? Doesn't even have to still be functional, but the shoddy T-tapped crap that gets installed on vehicles at the dealer is downright painful to witness. It wouldn't surprise me if it was fine from the factory and some dealer-installed (I use this term loosely because many of these items are contracted 3rd party installers) device is causing the issue.

A bit OT but I'll throw in my $.02.

I was at the dealer yesterday morning picking up a part and having the service department confirm that the puddle light circuit wiring was installed in the front doors since it appears as though my truck came with the front doors prewired. This was a head scratcher for the service manager and the only assumption was they were short on a harness or there was a mixup and installed Lariat door harnesses. Part numbers matched. I would need new side mirrors which I may just get and have the heated mirrors also.

But he mentioned that I should use caution connecting any third party components to anything BCM related. While he didn't have a problem with the wiring or that anything was causing a fault as he checked the BCM fault counter, he did mention if there was ever a problem with the BCM most dealers would simply blame the after market parts. His advice was to rewire to an up fitter the grill lights, running board lights, side vent lights, etc. Which I spent the most of yesterday and last night completing. I lose the remote key lock/unlock illumination but thats ok, I gain a bit of peace of mind not running into future headaches.

To the OP I hope it gets fixed quickly for you and you can enjoy your Ranger.

Retired, work is a four letter word.
I never 'tap' into OEM wire harnesses for just this reason, upfitter switched box wired to battery with either control box or remote control. If I have to connect to OEM then I buy a OEM splitter or acc harness. The exception is when the OEM provides a deadhead plug for the accessory. (like the bed power outlet plug)

Sage advice.

My talk with him was educational, and he was a very cool guy, main reason I frequent this particular dealer, since I've always had great service from them.

He told me its typical they check the BCM counter if there are any issues that are related. If there are recorded faults then they check the circuit, if there is a non OEM part or connection they can inform the customer that it's the non-OEM part that caused the issue. It's not just a blanket excuse, although it may seem like it, but they can't take the time to diagnose every third party part. His only gripe was circuits tied into a BCM component as those are internally fused with FET's. Tapping into (pig tailing) into an externally fused circuit is not as risky as you are just going to blow a fuse. His only other advice was to never share a ground with a signaling component.

The xlt unlocks the drivers door upon approach. Then once you open it you have I believe 10 seconds to put the key in the ignition or the alarm goes off.

I’ve purchased many new vehicles as well. Expecting them to not stall on the Highway and to start when I turn the key is hardly being an unreasonable customer. There are laws for a reason. You must sell cars for a living though.
