Please do report back. I am thinking of this too. Also, curious as to what the fluid looks like at that mileage.

The thing is that at 1/2 throttle and above (once warm) this transmission shifts like a champ (like you mentioned above). I can't afford tires and speeding tickets to keep that up every day.
Did that unleashed tune you had custom made help some of the shifting issues?

I say we have a group get together for all of those with weird transmissions, get a few kegs, take our trucks out to the desert, and just full send. It’ll be worth it for the story. And if my trucks too dumb to learn to shift, well then it’ll just have to suffer the consequences ?

Got my truck back from service, among which I asked them to take a look at rough shifts. Was in for a couple of days, came out with TSB 22-2139 including transmission shifting strategy update and control valve body overhaul. I guess I did an early transmission fluid change after all. :D

TSB applies to F150, Expedition, Ranger, Mustang, and Navigator. Interestingly, it only applies to F150s through MY 2020, but the others through 2022.

How long is that gonna take? Or did they do it already?

Yeah I'd be real careful switching fluids. Plus other 10r80 owners have already tried switch brands. Amsoil is said to be too thick and Valvoline seems to be a compatible alternative. Search online.

Has anyone tried "LubeGuard"? It's an additive that supposedly works wonders with just 1-2 ozs added to your current fluid.

Meep and I talk back and forth on another forum, he's still having a bit of issue with his, but went and added more LG and it has cleared up. Initially, he only used 2oz instead of the 1oz per qt LG recommends.

He's also one of the first people I know of that experimented with Amsoil ATF, which is thicker than ULV and it caused a lot of harshness in the trans while shifting. He switched back to ULV in short order.

I use the Platinum at the LG recommended dose of 1oz/qt (10oz Initially and 1oz/1qt every D&F I do at 10k intervals).

You're doing trans fluid replacement every 10k then? Is that just sucking out what's in the pan, or did you install the aftermarket one with a drain plug?

At the moment, just sucking it out with a pump, which tends to get 4-5 quarts. I'll do the PPE pan sometime this year, just haven't gotten around to getting the pan and setting aside the time. Total fluid capacity is reported to be around 12-13 qts, so I'm swapping out a little less than half.

And yes, it is every 10K. Oil changes on the 5, tire rotation and trans on the 10's. Trans filter at 60, or more likely 40-50 depending on when I buy the PPE pan, I'll do the filter at that time since I'll be in there.

Mines got 5500 on it and I’ll be taking it in early March. Shifted great for a few weeks then the weird shifting began. Worked better after I disconnected the battery and reset adaptive learning but now cold shifts are worse and sport/tow downshifts all lurch forward. Normal drives decent other than the too high a gear lugging and occasional clunky shift when cresting a hill and take my foot off the gas. Somedays the transmission will be super smooth. If I drive in tow or sport and switch back to normal, I get the weird shifting in normal like the memory bled over or something. I’ll see what they say I guess. Seems like a programming thing but who knows these days.

Yes, but the cold stuff remains about 50% of the time.
As far as I can tell, the cold shifting is very common. Most of the time I’m guessing it’s the software telling the truck what to do prior to fluid being circulated and warmed up. May be due to low fluid level on some. I could deal with the cold shifts if the tune works to provide better shifting once warmed up.

It does. I just worry about the cold shifting causing undue wear.

I think I'll have the shop do it at 50k and install the ppe pan. I really wish the longer dipstick wasn't 200 freaking dollars.. but .. might add that as well so i can do my own spill and fills far more often after than initial dump.

I really want to see how far I can go on this thing with the LMS tuning.

Well just moved up my appointment to this this Thursday. Noticed today my transmission would not skip a gear either accelerating or decelerating regardless of throttle or brake input. It wasn’t in tow mode or sport. Really weird. Would hang for a bit longer on hills and just behaved really weird. 6000 miles and back to the dealer.
