That's normal...I've seen 220F on a 85F day at steady 65mph on highway towing nothing on level ground...
Haven't you had a new transmission put in ? There is like a 85 page thread about that lol.

I have been lucky knock on wood I have had two of these trucks one 2X4 2019 and this one. The only issue I have had out of them is the dreaded shudder all fixed with the EGR vacuum control valve both around 60,000 miles. The first truck I got in Feb of 2019 and I put 80,000 miles before I sold it.

75-90k is the magic number. I have another 50k or so before I have to go steal a 7 speed bronco for parts. Ill give it back with in automatic in a few months.

I have already ordered the Lubeguard I guess what freaked me out was seeing the temp spike to 230 since I installed the Scan Gauge 3 and googling what the trans should run at.
If I had a temp gauge I’m sure I would be panicking over the temps I’ve probably hit after towing in the middle of summer lol. I’m wanting to get one of the plug in gauges that has the app where you can see all the temps.

I’m at 91k. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous about the transmission lol.

For what it's worth the PPE standard pan is still a good idea since it also gives you the drain plug to make servicing much easier. Will the fins help with cooling? To an extent they will. If anything it's going to help stabilize the temperatures a little bit more.

As for getting up to 230° F I wouldn't be too concerned. You did it while going up a hill and I'm sure it came right back down after you got to flat ground or started going downhill. This is normal transmission behavior especially when towing.

Once I seen the temps I was hitting I started driving much more conservative staying around 60 to 55 and just for reference I live near Houston so it is pretty well flat land. with a few overpasses. To e in my engineering brain temps should be controlled better as FMC should expect towing in warmer weather down south. And the trailer is no where near it max tow rate at its weight.

Also keep in mind that the owners manual states to keep the speed at or below 65 MPH when towing. If you were going much faster then it makes sense. Also doing stop and go type traffic will do the same.

Agreed but the max speed on my route I took was 65 so I back downed to 55 to 60.

Regardless what speed you are going, when going up a hill it is expected to have your transmission temps go up. This doesn't matter if you have a trailer on your vehicle or not. It is normal and you will be okay
