This is where. mine is located. So far it has been set and forget so after initial gain set I haven't had to touch it. Seems like there is a lot of smarts built in this unit based on speed and deceleration. I haven't had to push the button for extra gain yet and my trailer brakes are not over compensated. Nice small and totally out of the way. Best functioning controller I have ever had so far.

I like the look of this one.

Amazon shows it as not compatible with the Ranger.

Did you have to do anything special to get it to work with your truck?
It's listed as not compatible because like other mentioned it does not tie in with the pre-collision system.

Nope, nothing special just had to splice the 4 trailer wires the come with the trailer package and connect them to the unit.

I have one of these ( Echo: A Wireless Brake Controller for Your Smartphone (curtmfg.com) ) that I bought at home depot. It works flawlessly. I was a little nervous about it at first, but It works perfect. You only need your phone to pair it and adjust it. After that it works by itself without the phone. There was a comment about manually applying the trailer brakes with the phone being a concern. In 40 years of towing, I've never manually applied the trailer brakes only with no truck brakes except to check that the trailer brakes are working. This works perfectly for me. In addition, I can move it to another vehicle if I need. Or, I'm considering starting to rent out my trailer and can include it with the rental. Long story short, I'm glad I went with it.

Install tip: this seems to be a Ford only thing, but the trailer has to be plugged in with the device in order to pair. When I first got it, I tried pairing it by just plugging it into the truck without a trailer. I thought I got a defective one, but Ford plugs aren't powered unless it senses a trailer plugged into or some such nonsense. Had me all worked up for awhile.

I really like the Redarc. I have owned the P3 in the past , but the Redarc is very clean and easy to use. I have it in my Ranger, and loved it so much I installed one in my Class C motorhome. They are also not very expensive.

Thank you! I was hoping it wasn't one of those old knee bangers.

The Ford TBC IS the Redarc, with extra steps. Available from Levittown for $280

On the fuse panel is the place Ford will install the controller. Here are two other options for DIY.
On the shift console:

Or in place of one 12V outlet (my preferred)

I use a Tekonsha P2 because I already had one when I bought the Ranger.

I keep thinking about getting the Ford Redarc because my P2 is a knee-banger (not often, but it happens) and also to get AEB functionality.
