HA! I'm 52 years old and have been changing the oil in my vehicles since forever! I'm always pretty careful about it....my best guess is "shit happens"!

On most of these new cars it ain't hard.
I always poke a hole in a rag and put the funnel through the hole, then wrap the rag around the base of the funnel when installed.

I've had the funnel pop out on me while adding oil. I bought the one that locks in place like the oil cap does an boom no more accidental oil spills

Leaky valve cover gasket is my guess

Was it running fine before your pulled the plugs? If so, then it could be spilled oil on the cover...

You could very well be correct, but that oil looked perfectly new. The Op did not state when he last changed his oil

Oil was changed about 3000 miles ago. I change it every 5k. I’m thinking it’s spillage but how would it get past the rubber boot on the coil pack? And only in the center 2 plus not the front ans back.
That being said….the truck is running fine. And not smoking at all. I did make an appointment at the dealer to have it looked and documented.

eventually it will seep in. Kinda like when a bolt is rusted in place. You spray it an eventually it seeps into the threads even thought it's tight an covered in a layer of rust.

I think there's a TSB on water seeping past the coil packs an shorting or fouling out the plugs under certain conditions.

in true Ranger5G fashion, there's one of two solutions to this problem

if you have a TG damper, remove it. Its the cause of your oil issue.
if you don't have a TG Damper, install one, It will fix you oil issue.

As with most wrong internutz information, the damper doesn't use oil, just 303 nano nantucket graphene carbide particulate. The newer SYNC uses it.

But, when using a rotisserie to change oil out the spark plug holes...
